Yesterday was 8 weeks since I went back to the gym.  This is the first time in my life I’ve ever needed to lose weight, so this was new to me and entirely different from the past where hitting the gym was simply a way of life much like running or bike riding for exercise is for others. I actually used to be a runner until I hurt my knee one too ( Read more... )

Am so glad you're seeing results and you're back with the exercise.
I need to get back to exercising too.

Thanks! The hardest part was that first day, so I know how it is to want to get back to it, but the difficulty of taking that first step.. Seriously, that was tough, but soon I was kicking myself for not starting about a month earlier. I felt like I was dying after only 12 minutes on the elliptical that first day and had to stop, but now I do 25 minutes hard core which (the machine tells me) is equivalent to 2.5 miles and burns about 320 calories and that's the max I wanted to get to. Just enough to get my heart really pumping, but any longer really won't do any good other than burn a few more calories for the day, so the rest is strength training to build more muscle that will burn more fat even when I'm lying around. :-)

Yay, glad your results are coming and you are feeling good. Messed up my sciatic and lower back a couple weeks ago and haven't been able to clean stalls like usual or ride my horses so I'm stir crazy, irritated and feeling chubby.

Keep up the good work! :)

Oh no! That's frustrating. I hope it gets better soon so you can get out there and start riding again.

How are things going with the house?

This house selling is going slower than expected. Realtor is too new bur we have been dragging our feet too because we hadn't managed to make a deal on a place to go but now we have. We are thru underwriting and it is set to close on around 7/6. Ready to drop the price here a little and get things moving again but my lawn tractor turned into a belching barely moving dragon so my weeds are out of control. Do not want to drop price and have a frenzy of people with weeds ya know? Also have learned pool must be full and running to have loan approval or filled in with dirt. Needs new plaster and I hate to waste the water but I think we will be filling it back up and fixING the leak in the vacuum pipe because it's easiest and most people want the pool....even though we personally would have filled it in ( ... )

Great about the new house! Yes, I don't know what people with pools are going to do with all the water restrictions and talk about penalties and super high rates if you go over. It's one thing to keep it filled, but having to drain it to fix the plaster and completely refill it is going to be a LOT of water.

I would love to get out to Santa Anita this season. Such a beautiful setting with the mountain backdrop. People talk about Del Mar, but I like Santa Anita much better. I'll keep my fingers crossed for your horse! :-)

Congratulations on making progress, Russ. For so many people, changing the habits and condition after even a few years can be SO SERIOUSLY challenging. Glad you can persist during these days ( ... )

Ha! I am not where I'd want to be for pictures. I'm just trying to get the weight off, but the "sculpting" is another story - and I'm older now. No matter how many ab exercises you do, abs won't show until you get to 10% body fat or under. I was actually quite a bit lower than that at my most lean point, but my face looked like hell. LOL. You just can't pull that off as well anymore when ya get old. I need to find a happy medium ( ... )
