I enjoyed this. It made me laugh, but more seriously it seems to speak to the trouble of presenting one's creative output to a world where all the prosaic naysayers can only see something original being presented for its own sake, as an act of vanity and puffery. - Those people being too timid, or materialistic, to create something to share, or who see no "purpose" or fun in doing that sort of stuff, so they label those who do as "showoffs"!

I don't know if it's that people are disinterested generally in anything that they can't watch in half an hour on t.v. or if there is so much stuff out there that new work just seems to lose it's value--everyone is an amateur so I'll listen with half an ear, but you almost do have to showboat to get noticed. Not only that but I am trying to make quips about the showboating itself and that need of poets for that affirmation from others. Unless you are a famous poet holding a P.H.D. then you are a loud mime performing on some empty street.

Hey, sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, but things have been mega hectic as you can see fr. my LJ posts. Anyway, hope to see you & Sarah in B-ton over winter break (i.e. the next 3 weeks). It's been a while.

I particularly like the lines

"yawp dance and cry

out my last poem as if my

soul had been exorcised"

That sums up the feeling for me very well.
