more prop 8 ridiculousness

Nov 05, 2008 10:08

I don't know which of my friends in livejournal I read it off of, but it is ludicrous that more people care about giving chickens more space to live (prop 2 at 6,113,393 yes votes) than they do about preserving the rights of another human being (prop 8 at 4,792,873 no votes).

I voted yes on 2, but I also voted no on 8. I want to be able to marry who I want to, man or woman. And I want chickens to be a bit more free. They have feelings too.

current Prop 2 results:
6,113,393 / 63.2% Yes votes ...... 3,555,798 / 36.8% No votes
current prop 8 results:
5,220,694 / 52.1% Yes votes ...... 4,792,873 / 47.9% No votes

What I want to know is why did prop 2 get over 6 million votes when prop 8 only has 4.8. That seems wrong to me. Over one million people voted for chicken rights rather than human rights.

People think we're sick. People think we're not human, less than animals. My own father told me that. My flesh and blood. I asked him why a man and a woman had the right to marry and two men didn't/two women didn't. His responce was 'because we're human.' I had to explain to him that he helped raise a mutant then. He didn't care. I'm not human.

unfortunately, the yes on 8 folks didn't sell it on the 'taking away rights' thing. They sold it on 'they'll teach your kids to be that way' thing.

Which is a #$%$# lie, but, hey ...

They were also selling it with the fear that churches would lose their tax exempt status when they refused to perform gay marriages. The propaganda was amazing.

I actually heard that a lot of people (for unknown values of a lot) were confused about Prop 8, which is unfortunate. (also stupid, but people are STUPID) I heard that some people thought voting No was voting AGAINST Gay marriage, not in support of it. I mean, sure... I guess that is a fairly understandable mistake to make, but I still think its an intensely stupid mistake to make. Makes me wonder though... if maybe there were enough people who were mistaken that might have turned the tide.
