our first parting

Our little grey cat Neo, stealer of food, destroyer of bed mice, has left this mortal plain to hunt with Bast.

I will try to explain how desolate and quite my house is without the constant motion of the Neo cat.

He was fine, then last Wednesday, SmilinJim stopped him from jumping up on the table by catching him between his legs and probably squeezed him a little too hard. So we took Neo to the vet on Thursday, she said that his bladder was over full and after some testing, he had crystals blocking his urethra, so she kept him overnight to clear that up and send him home with me on Friday with some meds and a new diet. Neo did not eat and drank only a little, he went down hill fast.

Today after another trip to the vet and some saline for the camel back, he is gone.

This is my first pet loss, I never had pets as a child. I'm trying to reassure Jim that he didn't kill his kitty, that even though Neo was a young cat, only three, he was very sick and sometimes our bodies give out. All living things die, even the stars burn out.

To quote Dickens/Muppets, Kermit the Frog/Bob Cratchet, "Life is made up of meetings and partings. That is the way of it. I am sure that we shall never forget Neo, or this first parting that there was among us."

Thank you Neo cat for coming into our lives, for teaching the boys how to be gentle, for being Jimmy's special cat. Thank you for the pouncing, the stealth ankle attacks, the constant running to the door to greet us when we arrived and left the house. Thank you for the unsolicited TV blocking by sitting on my chest, I will miss your soft fur and for letting me nom-nom-nom on sweet little kitty ears.

Thank you for making every moment count.
