If you're looking for me over on Dreamwidth, I'm TKingfisher over there, or you can always find me at www.redwombatstudio.com

I'm on Twitter as @ursulav and Tumblr as tkingfisher, my Amazon author pages are here and here and I guess that's pretty much everything. If you need me, you can't throw a rock without hitting me online these days ( Read more... )

Is there a reason so many people are mentioning DW migration today?

I can't speak for anyone else, but the site's gone weirdly buggy on me. I get comments to show up about one time in three, I can't hit "Visual Editor" instead of "HTML", can't get menus...it's probably just a temporary glitch, but figure it can't hurt.

It definitely doesn't hurt.
I keep Lj Archive constantly updated, and try and get DW backed up every 3 months or so- it's just that today my Flist has blown up with "time to migrate" and no one is talking about why. I just woke up so I thought maybe there was some new business deal that I haven't read about yet.

I've seen some of the migration talk too, which made me think it was time. Herding behavior, probably...

There are also a feed of your tkingfisher tumblr and a feed of your ursula-vernon tumblr set up on livejournal.

I set them up a while back when I was using dreamwidth primarily as a feed aggregator, and was resisting creating a tumblr account. :}

Err. "livejournal" there should have been "dreamwidth". That's quite the braino.

Yes, that's what I use. I managed to get a 'seed' account on DW, and can crosspost to, I think, 5 other sites. So I usually write the post on DW, and crosspost to LJ and (sometimes) InsaneJournal (yes, that still exists!).

Do you crosspost?

I notice that other people have already mentioned the crossposting option, which I also use. But did you know that you can import all your LJ content (posts, comments, icons, and filters) into DW? It's very straightforward: go to your Profile page and select Organize/Import Content, and then just follow instructions. The initial import is likely to take quite a while, but after that you can stay caught up by running one every quarter or so, and that doesn't take nearly as long. (This is mostly to collect all the comments in one location.)

Have added you on the DW side -- I'm stardreamer there.

Is there any risk of harming the LJ journal we export from?

I don't believe so. I originally set up my DW account and imported my LJ content in order to have a backup, during one of the earlier kerfluffles. Then I started writing posts on the DW side and crossposting from there to LJ because it was trivially easy in that direction but not in the other. I've run imports regularly since 2009, and have never seen any evidence of a negative effect on the LJ side.

Thank you. I would truly hate anything to go wrong with this journal.
