A wombat in a murder mystery?! anonymous August 20 2018, 23:17:14 UTC
Ursula, I was startled to find a wombat in a murder mystery - "The Green Mill Murder" by Kerry Greenwood, who is Australian. The series of novels, of which this is the fifth, is set in Australia, in the 1920s. The lead character, "Miss Fisher," is a rich lady private investigator living in Melbourne. Netflix has produced a series of shows based on the books. I've become fan of Ms. Greenwood's style, as she casually drops things like this into the stories: "She had previously tasted police-station tea, but accepted a cup anyway." Reminds me of the sort of things Digger comes up with, which is one reason I've read her story from first cover to last panel twice.
"Wom," as his human calls him, is introduced on pages 140-141 (of the Poisoned Pen Press edition). He next appears, in a brief but important action, on page 151. His big "save the day" scene is on pages 165-167.
