Ah. We went to a Cinebarre last night and saw. First, let's all hail the availability of something other than popcorn and Gummi Bears at the theater. Second, I was surprised by how faithful an adaptation it was (until the last scene, of course). Read the book last fall because I had heard about the upcoming movie and while audience manipulation is way more prevalent in film than it used to be, it's harder to do a decent job of it in print without pissing off the audience. The one saving grace for the book was the long speech by Cawley explaining the oncoming revolution of pharma-psychiatry. Felt like that was way too rushed in the movie. Like they spent so long getting us to that point and then they didn't explain the bigger picture with enough adequacy.
Anyway, it was enjoyable enough. Not a Leo fan, but thought he did well. And Ben Kinglsey was 10% less insufferable than usual.

I'd say it's about the same level of difficulty to get an audience to accept you jerking them around in both film and print.
There was enough talky talk exposition in the movie without having to delve deeper into new waves of psychiatry. It was good enough. The best possible? Probably not. But good enough.
