I've had this precise conversation regarding BARTON FINK with almost everyone I know that has seen it:

ME: Was it any good?

THEM: Yeah.

ME: Did you enjoy it?

THEM: Uhh . . .

It's a wonderfully crafted film and way more complex than most of the Coens' recent stuff. But a fun day at the beach with punch and pie, it is not.

I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it. Yeah, it's certainly not the cinema equivalent of comfort food, but it seems I'm usually in tune with the Coens' sensibilities, but I still can see where their detractors come from.

Have you seen A SERIOUS MAN?

I really want to know, how's the James Murphy soundtrack for Greenberg? I haven't seen the movie/won't since I'm in Japan.

It's good, nothing like LCD Soundsystem. It's also very subdued, so I barely noticed it through most of the film.
