1. What was the first video game you have ever played?
Super Mario Bros.
2. What was your first console?
Nintendo.
3. Have you ever visited a video game arcade?
Oh lord yes! Tons of them!
4. What was your first handheld?
The original Nintendo Game Boy
5. What was the first game you've beaten/cleared completely? (Got to the last level/got 100%/beat high score, etc.)
Hmm, it's been a long time so I don't remember exactly... but I'm pretty sure that would've been Super Mario Bros. 2, which I found much easier than Super Mario Bros 1 (Floating Princess FTW)
6. Games based off of real sports: Yay or Nay?
Nay, unless we're talking about Wii Sports, which is totally awesome.
7. Online games: Yay or nay?
Yay, I'd say... though there are lots of games I prefer as non-online.
8. Do you play any Massively Multiplayer Online RPG games? (MMORPGs?)
Yes, though only two to date; I used to play Ragnarok Online, and now of course I've succumbed to WoW.
9. Do you play any virtual pet games? (Neopets, Teripets, Aftermathzone, etc.)
Does the Sims 2 count? Otherwise, there's no... wait, I forgot, I sometimes play Nintendogs.
10. Puzzle games and Strategy games: Yay or Nay?
Puzzle games yay, Strategy games nay.
11. Do you play any RPGs?
[sarcasm] No, you think? [/sarcasm]
12. Do you play any Platformer games?
You bet!
13. What was the first game/console/handheld of yours that stopped working?
Stopped... working...? *blink* I suppose my old Game Boy would probably not work now if I poked it, nor would my Game Gear.
Characters/Plot
14. Do you actually care if a game has a plot or do you just play games for the gameplay?
Depends on the type of game. A platformer is all about the gameplay, obviously, and I don't really care about the plot (see: every Mario game ever). However, I play RPGs for plot; as long as they have bareable gameplay, it's fine.
15. Name a few video game characters that are your favorites.
Sephiroth, Tifa, Aeris, Celes, Terra, Kefka, Donald Duck (KH), Kairi, Xemnas, KH1!Ansem, Demyx, Link, Zelda, Prince of Persia, Princess Peach
16. Name a few series that are your favorites
Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts
17. Has a video game ever made you cry?
No, don't think so... although I sorta came close at the beginning of Sora's arc in Kingdom Hearts II, when he's at the train station.
18. Has a video game character annoyed you so much that you wanted him removed from the game?
I used to think that way about Cloud, but now not so much.
19. Do you "pair" or "ship" characters up with one another? (make/create/write romance involving them)
[sarcasm] Not at all. It's not like I'm at all interested in things like Sephiroth/Tifa, Sephiroth/Aeris, Sephiroth/any female character at all, Cloud/Tifa, Cloud/Aeris, Sora/Kairi, Pence/Olette. Xemnas/Kairi... no, no interest in shipping at all. [/sarcasm]
20. Do you write video game fanfiction?
Hell yes.
21. Do you draw video game fanart?
Not for a looooooong time... and even then, all my crappy pictures of Sephiroth will remain buried in my sketchbook.
22. Do you come up with theories on how a character came to be/what he or she would do in a situation/why he or she is moody/etc.
[sarcasm] Pff, it's not like I build entire backstories for my favourite characters or anything. [/sarcasm]
23. Are you a "fanboy" or "fangirl" of any character?
[sarcasm] I have never been known to follow a single character slavishly through five games, nor write fanfiction about him, nor collect tons of icons of him. Nope, not me. [/sarcasm]
Boss Battles/Villains
24. Hardest Boss Battle
Huh, I'm having trouble thinking of one... I guess Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts 1, although he wasn't exactly a "boss". Also, that wall in FFVII.
25. Most Frustrating Boss Battle
See above.
26. Most Rewarding Boss Battle
Any boss in WoW who gives me phat loot. :D. I'd go out on a limb and say Kefka, though.
27. Funnest Boss Battle
Hmm, that's a toughie too. I'm going to choose one randomly and say that I sorta enjoyed the Amoeba boss in the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time. No idea why, it was just kinda fun. Actually, Zelda boss battles in general tend to be totally awesome.
28. Most Boring Boss Battle
End of Final Fantasy X. Mind you, I had ridiculously powerful characters, all with weapons that broke the damage limit, so I killed him in something like one shot.
29. Boss Battle that dragged out for a long, long time
Kefka, for sure.
30. Boss Battle with the coolest music
Safer Sephiroth for sure, although Kefka gets a nod too.
31. Most Surprising Boss Battle
Hmm, don't think there's ever been a surprising boss battle... usually they're telegraphed a mile away.
32. What's your all time favorite villain?
Obviously Sephiroth... but again, Kefka is up there.
.
33. What's your all time least favorite villain?
Not sure I have a least favourite villain; there are plenty, however, that are developed so poorly or in such a short span of time that I just don't care about them (e.g. the vizier in Prince of Persia 1). I guess Rufus might count, not that I don't like him, but that I'm just not getting the whole OMG FANGIRL AWESOME vibe.
34. Do you ever feel sorry for the villains?
Oh yesh. Poor neglected science experiment Sephy. *hugs* And I felt sorry for Demyx too.
35. Are there any villains that seem like they should be playing for the good guys, but aren't?
Though I didn't actually play the boss battle myself, Ganondorf in Wind Waker seemed a bit on the "good" side in a way. Also, Demyx shoulda been a good guy. XD
36. Most malicious villain?
I'll go with
icor and say either Sephiroth or Kefka, but probably more Kefka. While Sephiroth had the whole, "You are ants to be stepped on gleefully," thing going, Kefka actually liked to rub people's noses in the pain he caused.
37. Most suprising villain?
Can't think of any "surprising" villains off the top of my head, though I'm sure there have been a few "betrayal" plots I've come across.
Favorites
38. What is your all-time favorite 2D Game?
Final Fantasy VI. Also much love for Super Mario World.
39. What's your favorite 3D game? (PS1/N64 generation)
Ocarina of Time. Honorable Mentions: Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64. I see a pattern emerging.
40. What's your favorite arcade game?
Probably a fighting game like Dead or Alive or something like that.
41. What's your favorite next-gen game? (Gamecube/PS2/X-Box)
Super Smash Bros. Melee, with Kingdom Hearts 1/2 a very close second.
42. Sequels/long series: Yay or nay?
Depends on the series, and if they're done well. FFX-2 was kinda yay (it was frothy and mindless, a "popcorn" game, which is fine), but most of the sequels for FF7 have me crying and hiding under something.
43. What's your favorite Online Game?
World of Warcraft.
44. What's your favorite console?
Oooh, toughie. In terms of favorite of all I've ever played, probably the SNES. In terms of current favorite, the Wii.
45.What's your favorite handheld?
Nintendo DS, though Game Boy Advance was also awesome.
46. Have you ever got yourself involved in a "console war"? (arguing that a console is better than another console)
Yes, when I was a young teen I got quite virulent in my defense of Nintendo.
47. Have you ever defended a character/game/console you liked in an argument? Which one?
Oh god yes. Nintendo, Square Enix, Sephiroth, Tifa, N64, the Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts series... I regularly defend them all, often to the same person. *winks at
limosinedriver*
48. Name a game that you like but everyone else seems to hate.
Hmm, not sure... maybe Ehrgeiz? Or Final Fantasy IX?
49. Name a character that you like but everyone else seems to hate.
Tifa.
50. Name a game that you hate but everyone else seems to like.
Final Fantasy X. Hate is maybe a strong word, but I really wasn't a huge fan. Also, there are tons of games that while everyone says they're great, I have less than no interest in playing them (FFXII, the Pokemon series)
51. Name a character that you hate but everyone else seems to love.
Used to hate Cloud a lot, though I've eased up on that. I also think that Kadaj and his crew are a little overrated, but not sure I hate them. I pretty much like everybody. XD
52. Have you ever stopped before you finished a game because it was too frustrating to go on?
Only back in the days of the Nintendo, when games were really hard and dying meant having to start the entire game from scratch. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes to mind...
53. Will you stop at NOTHING to get 100% in a video game?
Sort of yes and sort of no; I'll often read a strategy guide and use it to get as much of the 100% as I can; however, if the process is ridiculously longwinded (e.g. win the entire season of Blitzball to get Wakka's superweapon), I won't bother.
54. Have you ever injured yourself at a video game? (Space Invader wrist and Mario Party 1 blister victims may answer yes)
More blisters than I care to count.
55. Has a horror/survival genre video game scared you to the point that you refused to finish the game? Did you get nightmares from said game?
Only horror games I've ever played are Seventh Guest and Eternal Darkness, and they didn't scare me THAT much (just a little). However, after watching only two minutes of F.E.A.R. video, I can safely say that I could never EVER play that game. And Silent Hill would almost certainly turn me into a screaming mass of terror.
56. Have you ever thrown a controller/disc/cartridge in a fit of frustration?
Not really; perhaps dropped them on the carpet in defiant disdain, but that's about it.
57. Do you need to blow/clean certain games to get them to play?
I don't think so, but then I don't play the old games any more.
58. Have you ever played a game for so long that you missed sleep over it?
I suppose I did when I first got KH2; the first night, I stayed up until 1 playing it just because it was so confusing and I wanted desperately to find out what was going on. Nowadays, I suppose I occasionally stay up late playing WoW.
59. Were you ever involved in the Pokemon craze?
Hell nah.
60. Last but not least: Do you picture yourself playing video games 10, 20, or 30 years from now?
It really depends. If Nintendo keeps up their current rate of absolute awesome, then probably; the Wii and DS are both innovative and change the way games are played, and I think that's great. However, I distinctly remember feeling totally disappointed and jaded while I was at the Tokyo Game Show, and not liking the direction gaming was going (more flash! more high definition! more pretty!) There are fewer and fewer games coming out that I actually give a damn about, and considering that I have little interest in getting an XBox 360 and NO interest in a PS3... my gaming days might be fading away.
