My home and native land

The moment when I "knew" I was back in Canada was while I was waiting for my luggage at the baggage carousel, watching the news... and rather than focusing on the horrible rapist father in Austria, or Random Suicide Bomber Du Jour, their big "crime" story was about a car keying suspect ( Read more... )

*glares evily* You are attractive always. Don't say crap like that! *snuggles the bunny*

Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed most of your trip. Do come to Japan...now damnit!! Okay, I'll negotiate for Comiket.:P When it is brutally hot and stand in lines in the parking lot...oh wait I am not selling this right am I? :P Although, after Egypt, maybe Comiket will seem much cooler? Heh, I am already planning my outfits. Considering how much toting and carrying I do for Koramay, we were joking that I should be wearing a butler's uniform. :P I swear Lolita's need at least one extra set of arms. :)

I'll e-mail you my address for the necklace and I should get yours in case I find you something cool. :)

LOL, I don't know if I'll be able to make it this year (highly doubtful, what with all my money going towards this trip) but I will definitely be getting there sooner or later, hopefully sooner than later. >.>

And yes, I still have your necklace ready for the address. ;-) Let me know whenever you're ready. ^^

Yeah, it's not just Egypt with pushy peddlers. A friend of mine actually got slapped by a merchant for actually insisting on saying 'no'.

A friend of mine, so you can guess what happened.

As for the desperate state of everything over there... I'm pretty sure apathy trumps poverty the world over. You should see some of the backstreets of Terrace. Not exactly inspiring. :P

Ouch. Where was this? That sounds pretty freaky... they didn't QUITE go that far, but some responded to our polite, "Please go away," with, "WTF this is MY country! You go away!"

Yeah, apathy was definitely palpable there, which was probably why it angered me so much... it didn't feel quite so much as, "we can't make things better," but more like, "we just don't." If that makes sense. -_-

Hehe, I warn you, it's not that much, just a small Anubis statue. I couldn't get anything too big, mostly due to lack of space in my suitcase to pack stuff. :-( When will you be in Vancouver next? We could try and get together then and I can give it to you then. If not, let me know how you'd like me to get it to you. ^_^

Holy hell did I write a paper on the Golden Age. Took my B in the class and didn't give a fuck. Wanted to go chuck out that movie and every single book on Elizabeth I and those involved out the window...well not really. I did want to destroy the paper though. So Egypt's not super glamorous, it still sounds pretty awesome! I'm still very much eaten up with jealously over you seeing the numerous tombs and museums. Glad you had a good trip and that you're back!

LOL... yeah, I wasn't sure what to make of it, really. The scenes where Elizabeth was getting all freaked out over Raleigh and acting like some sort of fickle teenager seemed sort of, I dunno, weird. Not to mention, YES MR. DIRECTOR, you can ease up with the bright white dresses and sunlight and shining and blah. I understand the symbolism here ( ... )

Golden Age was an okay film, though for me it seemed to play on negative female stereotypes and made Elizabeth seem a lot weaker. The whole Raleigh/Elizabeth/Bess thing made me really pissed, namely because it's largely related to the comment above. The film's theme was about divinity so of course every five seconds it's time to see the Virgin Mary. Totally up for discussion as I'm a nerd and there's no one for me to really discuss with as A) My professor is an asshole and isn't really an expert on Elizabethan history anyway B) My boyfriend has heard it all C) Nobody else I know is really into the Elizabethan era or wants to intellectually discuss the film.

I missed writing fanfics and reading them. I was stuck reading Froissart's Chronicles, Mimesis, Lydia Maria Child, and stuff on historical films, mainly Elizabeth/Golden Age. It wasn't all bad, but no smut involved. So yes, please bug me with your ideas.

I definitely agree on it making Elizabeth seem weaker. She started the movie off so promisingly, making all these snarky comments and basically being really awesome, but as soon as Raleigh came along she suddenly turned into a whimpering puddle of goo. The scene where she was basically like NO U CAN'T GO BACK TO VIRGINIA BCUZ I SAID SO! was rather squirm inducing, as was her confrontation with Bess and Raleigh and the weird Volta scene. I agree with the overrepetition of the Virgin Mary images, that and Elizabeth sans wig angsting about her aged state.

What do you make of Isabella? I wasn't sure whether the child was supposed to be creepy, or sympathetic, or what... she's just this silent presence with a doll that looks like Elizabeth, one that she seems to neither adore nor mistreat. She was really weird. ?_?

LOL, I'll get onto sharing my ideas with you soon. ^^

When I traveled in Europe, I encountered a tour guide who warned me about ABC syndrome.

"ABC syndrome?" I asked, totally walking into the "straight man" role.

"Another Bloody Church Syndrome! Has felled quite a few travelers! Ahaha!"

@_@;;;

So perhaps you experienced the same thing, but ABT syndrome? ;)

LOL, that's funny, my family and I often refer to a similar family of syndromes... YAT syndrome ("Yet Another Temple"), and its cousins, YAC (Yet Another Church), YAM (Yet Another Museum), etc. Glad to know that we're not the only ones who suffer from it! ;D
