I'm Posting This Everywhere

I have been researching the topic of President Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize this morning and I just needed to write this to get it off my chest. I don't really care who I offend, this is my opinion and I am free to express it just like anybody else.

First off, let me say that I am annoyed and saddened every single time I read a facebook status which blindly criticizes the president for no means besides petty partisan opinions with no facts or reasons stating why you feel such a way. If I have to read a single sentence that says "fuck Obama" or "Obama is going to destroy America," I'd like to have a reason and preferably some facts to back up such harsh statements. I see most of it as unwarranted partisan trash that shouldn't be worth my thoughts.

My opinions are very much on my sleeve. I am a very liberal person as many of you know, and I was quite expressive in my opinions over the previous administration. I however had reasons for this. Because of the former administration we are up to our ears in problems, which some are criticizing the current president for his attempts to try and make better. Under the Obama administration, we have used successful diplomatic action with no new military conflicts arising. Under the Obama administration we didn't see gasoline go over $3 a gallon once this summer. And now, we are in the midst of some serious and beneficial change for the country. The universal health care talks are important ones, because they involve our health. We are all human, and no man has abilities to avoid sickness and accidents requiring medical care. Therefore, it is terrible to think that only those who can afford it deserve to be treated. It helps us as a whole, when everyone is able to save their hard earned money instead of paying health care bills or insurance companies. I don't want to hear about taxes right now. Let the libertarian crowd beat that into the ground. The fact of the matter is, paying more in taxes to make sure you will always be able to get taken care of medically seems like a fair trade to me. And yes, I do have health insurance.

This is not about health care however. I was as shocked as everyone else was when I found out President Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. I am not blind to the fact that receiving such a prestigious award is quite a task and deserves some sort of hard work towards making the world a better place. President Obama is no different, and in saying this I admit there likely was a better candidate to receive the award this morning.

I do, however, find this move to be absolutely brilliant on the Nobel Committee's behalf.

Just think about this for a minute.
President Obama is the most powerful and influential man in the United States, and one of the most influential in the world. He has made a few important speeches on peace, and he has so far kept any additional military conflicts out of the picture. An impressive feat, considering the imprisonment of two American journalists in North Korea, a country which was continuously firing missiles to test their range. Our next challenge lies in Iran, where I am to an extent having serious deja vu back to 2003, as the UN weapons inspectors prepare to check on their nuclear program.

A more hotheaded president may have attacked Iran or North Korea by now, but I am proud to say that has not happened.

As long as we keep a diplomatic approach, slowly end our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and actually begin nuclear disarmament talks with Russia, the president is most deserving of the award, as his influence will benefit the rest of the world as example.

Think long term people. Stop being so negative. President Obama almost has to do more for world peace now. The award almost forces him to. If he doesn't, by all means attack the man. The Republican Party most definitely will if he doesn't act up to the prestige of the award.

But here is some food for thought: In 1990, Mikhail Gorbechev, the president of the USSR, was given the Nobel Peace Prize a bit prematurely, for his efforts to open the Soviet Union to the world. A year later, the country was completely devoid of its communist state, and became a fledgling democracy, ending The Cold War.

Think of the potential there is. Stop being negative because you can be.

Thanks for reading if you did.
