[He blinks at this response- the reversion to hi last name indicates that finally L was taking him seriously. This in itself is interesting as evidently, Rue Ryuzaki is something of a button for the otherwise mysterious detective. Light's curiosity, if it weren't already piqued, would most certainly have been by now. Another moment later, and a second emotion blends into the first. Anger.]

"Personal business." Don't make me laugh L. Do you really think that this Beyond is going to leave you alone? You don't think he might try to find you? Find us? [The last syllable comes out as an angry hiss.] Do I therefore not have a right to know at the very least if he is friend or foe?

[Forehead. FLICK. Before he shuffles off in search of sugar cubes.]

He will be accompanying us on our journey once I finish talking to him.

[Opening up the jar of sugar cubes and sticking a hand in--]

He is... how do you say... [A bit of a thoughtful and slightly troubled look before he plucks a sugar cube out of the jar and pops it into his mouth, turning to Light.]

[A foot shifts, lifting to scratch as his ankle as he pulls out another sugar cube and examines it. Just... thinking of how to phrase this. His past is being dragged up and out in Johto and he really does not like it at all.

Yet, Light is from after he came here. From the future, which means that if that L from home is himself, Light won't remember a thing about this place once he goes back, neither will he. So, he's safe in that regard.

Still, he needs to figure out how to phrase this. So after a moment's pause, he pops the sugar cube in his mouth and bites down before looking over at Light again.]

You know very little of my past, which is for the best really, I assure you. Beyond was a criminal in one of my previous cases. A very... tricky criminal at that. Do not worry, he was later caught and put into jail as, of course, that is my duty.

[Long and thin fingers tap against the tabletop, showing at least a tinge of restlessness caused by this conversation in L. He's not good with these talks of his past, or things related to him ( ... )

[Light listens intently with his arms folded across his chest, his expression thoughtful. Clearly if L was going to be generous enough to give an explanation, about his past nonetheless, there's little doubt in Light's mind that it is because the detective is convinced Light will not remember it. Either that or this Beyond person is extremely dangerous ( ... )

[A sigh. Light fails to see how whether or not he is Kira is at all relevant when a) They were in Johto and b) Light did not have the Death Note with him. The lack of Death Note is a source of major distress. His memories would be lost forever without it, and without his memories, he felt as though half of him was gone. The better half.]

No. No, I am not. But we've gotten off topic. I refuse to travel in the company of a potentially dangerous criminal.
