Personality:
Despite technically being two years old, his role as the leader of the Order of Lorelei has forced Ion to mature quickly. Normally calm and quiet, Ion is easily one of the most level-headed members of the group. He tends to be docile and accepting of others, quick to forgive and easily able to see the good in people. He is fairly optimistic, and typically manages to retain a positive attitude, even in trying situations.
However, Ion can be surprisingly stubborn at times. He takes his job as the Fon Master and his duty to the people very seriously, and he is quite determined to help bring peace and safety to Auldrant, even going so far as to defy Mohs, sneaking out of Daath in order to assist Jade in order to prevent a war between Malkuth and Kimlasca. When Ion is determined to do something, he puts his all into it, and he can even be a bit reckless in such instances, as when he goes into the Cheagle Woods alone, causing trouble for Jade and Anise while putting himself in danger.
It takes a while for Ion to develop his self-confidence. Raised as a replacement for the original, he initially believes that his life is unimportant, as he can be replaced, and a chapter of the manga adaptation indicates that he is at first reluctant to defy Mohs, because he has been taught to simply follow Mohs’ orders. Upon realizing the extent to which the people of Daath look up to him as their leader, he decides that he can’t continue to be a mere puppet, and he escapes Daath in order to fulfill his duty.
The apparent death of Sync and the revelation to his friend that he is a replica of the original Ion push him further to the realization that he is his own person and not a mere replacement. After Sync seemingly dies thinking that his life has no worth, Ion comes to realize that this way of thinking is wrong. The assurance of his friends that he is the only Ion that matters to them gives him further confidence, and from this point onward, he begins to take up additional responsibilities as the Fon Master, working more closely with other world leaders in order to stop the miasma and assure peace.
Although he does believe that his life has value, despite him being a replica, he is still more than willing to give it up for his friends. In order to save Tear and Anise’s parents and help Luke’s party stop the miasma, he goes along with Anise to read the Planet Score. Being the forgiving person that he is, he doesn’t blame Anise for his death, but is glad that through his death he is able to be of assistance to his friends.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Ion is quite weak, and has to be careful not to overexert himself lest he shorten his life. He tends to be overly trusting, which frequently results in him being captured. Although normally sensible, he does occasionally rush into things without regard to his own health, despite knowing that his actions will likely cause trouble for others.
Ion is able to see the good in others, acknowledging that Luke is a good person even when the rest of the cast considers Luke to be a spoiled brat. He is quick to forgive, and puts the needs of others before himself. However, he can also be firm when necessary, politely scolding others when need be and always following what he believes to be the correct course of action, even if others disagree or it causes him pain. He is mature and normally calm, showing himself to be capable of running the Order of Lorelei, despite his young age.

First Person Sample:
[There’s a rustling of pages as Ion looks through the trainer’s guide that he found amongst his things.]
Oddish, I believe it was? This book has been very helpful, although there are still a number of things I’m confused about. Still, I don’t suppose I’m going to find many answers sitting around here. It would probably be best to head to the next town.
[He bends down so that he is at eye-level with Oddish.]
I’m looking forward to traveling with you. Let’s both do our best, okay? Oh, if we’re going to be partners, I should give you a name, shouldn’t I? In that case…[There’s a brief pause as his mind wanders back to all the friends he left behind.] How about Anise?
Third Person Sample:
Ion knelt in the grass as he examined the odd, plant-like creature before him. He smiled as he reached out a hand to pet the creature’s leaves, apparently not too troubled to find himself in this unfamiliar place. He was worried about Anise and the others, of course, but he trusted that they would take care of things. He wished he could have spent more time with everyone, but his role was done now. He’d given them all the help he could.
He was dead, wasn’t he? There didn’t seem to be any other explanation for why he could be here. This would be the afterlife, he supposed. There were, however, some things about that explanation that didn’t quite make sense to him. In particular, it didn’t explain why he was woken up by an unfamiliar woman calling herself his mother.
“I don’t suppose you knew that woman?” he inquired of the creature, which didn’t respond, but continued to eye him, as if it was waiting for him to do something. “Well, it was nice meeting you, but I should probably be looking for shelter. It’s a bit chilly to be sitting outside like this, after all.”
The Fon Master stood up and took several steps in the direction of the nearest house, the one that he had found himself in upon his arrival. Perhaps the woman inside would be kind of enough to let him back in, at least long enough for him to get a better grasp of the situation.
As he walked, he heard the sound of footsteps behind up. For some reason or another, the creature seemed intent on following him. It was amongst the things he had been given, so perhaps it was his to keep?
“I’m afraid I don’t quite understand what you want, but you’re welcome to come with me.”
