Character
Name: Kisame Hoshigaki
Series: Firefly
Timeline: After Kazekage Rescue Arc
Canon Resource Links: series link on Kisame

Affiliation: Trainer

Personality: Kisame is jovial and articulate and would probably make a pleasant conversationalist, except that he’s far more interested in fighting anyone and everyone. But even when he’s gearing up to fight he’ll spend a few moments bantering with his opponents. He approaches opportunities to fight, maim, and murder with gleeful passion and has immense confidence in his skills. His preferred solution to most problems is the most violent available, such as cutting off a captured opponent’s legs to prevent escape, or brutally bulldozing through enemy forces. This doesn’t mean he can’t be subtle or non-violent, just that he chooses not to be.

Opponents might be fooled by his brutal nature into thinking he’s all brute force with no brains behind it but Kisame is very intelligent and perceptive. He’s a skilled strategist, able to make the best use of his formidable abilities and react to new threats and opponents swiftly and accurately. He’s also smart enough to be well aware of those stronger than him and to avoid challenging them in most instances.

While his bloodlust may suggest a violent temper, Kisame is actually difficult to do more than moderately annoy. His anger, when aroused, is more of the cold, calculating sort than violent rages. That said, when he does get a grudge he is capable of holding onto it for years and one thing that is sure to aggravate him is forgetting who he is--he makes a point of introducing himself before battles, even when he’s intent on killing his opponents.

Likewise, his expression of like for someone means very little in the long run. He will call someone cute--though his definition of cute is skewed towards brutality--and happily be willing to kill them later. Like or respect from Kisame doesn’t equate personally caring for them, or even friendship. In fact, the only one Kisame could even potentially be termed friends with is his partner, Itachi. Itachi is the only person Kisame expresses concern over the welfare of, and one of the very, very few Kisame will unquestionably defer to when it runs counter to his own desires.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
Kisame is very intelligent and perceptive. He has a good sense of humor and is very capable of getting along just fine with most people and being perfectly polite and social. His restraint, when he chooses to use it, is amazing and he has a mild temper. When he shares goals and has respect for the persons in question, he is very cooperative and works well in group situations but he’s equally capable alone.

But, he hardly ever chooses to use his restraint, or bother with being social. He’d much rather fight and kill. He has very few morals and all but zero empathy for people.

Physically, he’s immensely strong and has unbelievable stamina (which will be reduced to within normal human bounds on Route), as well as training in physical combat. Though his specialty is armed--specifically swords--combat, he is proficient in unarmed combat as well.

First Person Sample:
[The audio crackles on with a happy sounding “Rem rem rem~” in the background.] If these radios are common someone will be listening--get back into the water or you’ll dry out, fish.

[There’s a pause and some rustling, followed by two splashes.] A swim wasn’t a bad idea; happy now? You’re going to get yourself killed sooner rather than later if you keep that up. Now. We should get down to business.

I don’t recognize this country. [He laughs.] Strange, eh? I need some information; just the name of the country and its neighbors will do. I can deal with the rest.

Itachi-san, if you’re receiving this... you know what to do.

Third Person Sample:
This was not a good situation. The only conclusion Kisame could come to was that it was either an extremely powerful genjutsu or an equally powerful space and time jutsu. He needed time to think and regroup.

He had no reason not to take the pack he’d been given, not yet. His first instinct was to get to water, but his chakra was... sealed? Gone? No, it must be a seal. Kisame didn’t feel exhausted as if he was out; he just couldn’t mold or control his chakra. Damn. The enemy was well prepared; it would be a good, hard fight. “Removing my advantage and my weapon, eh? Smart, but why wait to attack?”

He wasn’t expecting an answer; no enemy skilled enough to do this would reveal their presence so willingly. It never hurt to try, and showing confidence even in his current state might make the enemy hesitate long enough to--there. He would rather be near water, but the clearing was defensible. He could figure out what was going on in safety here.

He was sure it wasn’t genjutsu now. It was too elaborate, too strange, and too obvious. So he’d been sent somewhere else and if he hadn’t been attacked yet he probably wouldn’t be. Not by the one who sent him here, anyway. All Kisame needed to do was survive until he got his chakra unsealed and then it would be a matter of hunting down his enemies. He was looking forward to finding them already. The changes in his appearance would increase his chances. He wondered briefly if it was caused by the seal but there were more important things to do. There was still the pack he’d taken from the woman claiming to be his mother. Heh, foolish woman.

Kisame upended the pack, spilling out the contents. After checking the pack itself for traps or tracking devices he sorted through his new belongings. There was a change of clothes--those would be useful--, rations, a book and other essentials for travel. So he was supposed to travel, how interesting. It suited his purposes; he had to hunt down the enemy and destroy them eventually.

At the bottom of the pile was a device and some balls. The device was some kind of radio and Kisame considered leaving it behind but decided it could prove useful. The balls, on the other hand, were a mystery. They didn’t look like weapons but he could see that they opened up.

“Only one way to find out...”

He clamped down on a yell of surprise at the fish that came out of it and headed straight for his arm. The teeth only scraped against his skin though, and it sounded happy. If he didn’t know better he would have said it was hugging his arm as well as a fish could--it couldn’t be!

“Samehada?!”
