BACKGROUND: He'd remembered every last tile in the orphanage he grew up in. All those secret spots and precious areas? Naruto knew them. That type of knowledge came from being stuck in the place year after year for as long as he could remember. In his memory there were no parents or family. Just a personal cot and food required to be given to him by law. Faces changed, always a different person with the same plastic smile. This was what life was.

Boring, isolated. Not the right place at all for a child who could barely sit still for more than a half a second and always had that charming urge to explorer as kids often do.

Admittedly he probably could have suffered there until he was an adult. He would have become close friends with those around him and built bonds with them that would last for eternity. Gotten a nice job and even married a nice woman. That all being if Naruto was destined to be normal in the first place. No, he must have been meant to meet Sasuke from the get go. And Sakura. And everyone else that seemed to pass through and leave a permanent scar that could either be detrimental to Naruto's life or looked upon with a smile and sense of pride.

When he'd been brought to the orphanage in a basket or carriage or whatever else you abandon babies on the front stoop in, his caretakers must have known that Naruto would be more trouble than he was worth. They tried so hard to teach him good morals and rules. Things that he could pick up very easily and not completely comprehend. His confusion must be why he was such a nuisance. Always pulling pranks and causing mischief. He gave the staff a run for their money and can proudly say today that he is the cause for every last gray streak in that place. It might have been for attention, or maybe the slight sting in his heart every time a new couple looked down at his in dismay made him act out.

Attention, no matter if positive or negative, was still attention.

It was around that time that Sasuke arrived that people started to disregard Naruto's track record. What they saw was this sweet kid with a smile that could go on for days that just needed a little work here and there. They could fix him and give him a wonderful home. Things started to look up. Note that it wasn't like Naruto hated his life. He was a happy kid with friends no matter where he went. But the feeling of having a family is something he had yet to experience. That goal was a very strong one that grew in power the more times he was rejected.

Then a temper started to grow. There was this trigger that set Naruto off, changed him from that once adorable child into something unattainable. It made interviews with could-be parents impossible what with the way he would suddenly snap if they asked one too many questions or gave him the wrong sort of look. His whole body language would change and set the innocent people completely off. After a while the staff must have given up and let Naruto be. They could try again another day and maybe by some sheer amount of luck it wouldn't be a complete failure.

More time at the orphanage and out of offices meant that Naruto was free to do whatever he wished as long as it wasn't detrimental to anyone's health. Everything would be alright. One day someone would take him. Someday he could stop seeing the orphanage psychiatrist about his aggressive spells. Someday he would be able to stop snapping at the other children there without any actual memory of the action and the nightmares would stop.

Again, there was Sasuke. He doesn't remember the actual details of how they met, but it must have ended in a fight. That was their relationship, though. Everything always starts in a fight. If there is ever a huge wall of change in Naruto's life it is more than likely because of a fight. With Sasuke. This first change was dire enough to spark some attention between the two of them. Fights started to become minimal. A friendship started to grow. This weird kid with a duck-butt for hair wasn't scared of the outbursts. He didn't run away or tattle on him to the nanny and Naruto could appreciate that. He appreciated how when he opened his eyes after what felt like a brief glimpse of time, when things were torn to shreds and his body felt sore, Sasuke was still there. It became somewhat of a daily occurrence these fits. They scared him, though he will never admit it out loud. And Sasuke was there. You don't forget that sort of thing.

When they'd grown older Naruto didn't project when it was brought onto the table that there might be a new way to calm 'the beast' as he so cleverly deemed it. There was no reason for him to doubt Sasuke, someone that he couldn't honestly see hurting him. These manipulations of Naruto's psyche actually helped and he became far too dependent on them. But could anyone really blame him? To finally feel like you have control over yourself that you hadn't had for as long as you can remember... But really it was Sasuke's control all along. That was a fact of life he found out the day Sasuke decided to skip out on everyone, their friendship, everything.

What had started as an ordinary scuffle between boys became something too intense to be considered safe in any means. They'd torn each other apart and even to this day Naruto can't say he truly regrets it. Sasuke might have left no matter what. He would have completely disappeared from Naruto's life altogether without so much as a goodbye and Naruto would still hate him just as much as he does now. Though it's never a complete hate. You can't completely hate family which after much maturity Naruto can finally admit it. He'd lost a brother.

In the background of their lives was Sakura. She'd been someone Naruto always had his attention on. She wasn't interested. He knew that. But they still stood there together thinking the same things. That Sasuke used to be there with them. That they both didn't know where he was and wanted to find him. But Sakura must have been smarter about her feelings or at least spoke through stupidity. What was once a union of their disbelief at Sasuke's betrayal turned into a fight between them instead. One of which that ended with that 'control' Sasuke had over Naruto slipping and the beast coming out at full force. It ended with him being sent into a wall. A punch by none other than Sakura.

That was the last time he saw her. Or better put, he saw her running away before completely blacking out.

Once he'd come to he was in a place unlike the orphanage. An older mutant had seen the fight, or lack thereof, and picked Naruto up. Sometime between when he'd been in all meaning of the word kidnapped and brought to the man's place no one came looking for him. Of course he panicked! For only a moment, though. Because being told just what had happened to him sheer hours ago was so much more important than the creepy guy rattling on. It was a lot to take in. The reasons for the blackouts and the empty feeling that would swell his gut the moment he would wake up only to find everything destroyed. There was suddenly so much sense and so much more to be terrified of. The overwhelming understanding that without Sasuke there was no chance Naruto could survive was almost too much to bare.

Not that he openly admitted to needing Sasuke. At that point in time he was still too young and stupid to know that sort of thing. But as he man went on to tell him that he didn't have the strength to control himself either things just sort of clicked. But he was smart enough to know that Sasuke had the power to make the big, bad monster go away. That sort of realization made Naruto sick. Could he really live with himself while knowing that he had to depend on someone else to fight his inner demons? Or could he get stronger with time so that he may fight it off himself? He wanted to be at Sasuke's level, or better.

The next three years were spent training with the man from before in order to gain that control Naruto never had before. Along the way they'd encountered more than a few people that knew the blond by name. Knew his secrets. In between being thrown out into the middle of trouble by his guide and running away from these people who Naruto decided needed some damn hobbies there wasn't much else to his life. He learned a few tricks and practiced harder than is healthy for a young adult. It's still a work in progress, but he's not stopping for anyone. Not until he's elite enough to hunt down Sasuke and beat his face in as well as kick the ass of every last one of those stalkers that seem to be out to make his life Hell. Then everything will be alright again.

PERSONALITY: Naruto has this sort of determination that just never dies out, always confident that he can accomplish something without a moments hesitation. He encourages other's to also reach their goals. 'These changes that other characters experience serve as the moral for the part of the story they take place in, and subsequently become the creed for the particular character's life.' Which means if you run to him and you're down on your luck he's not going to give you the money to get through the day. He's going to do his best to teach you skills you need to survive. And you damn well better listen or he'll beat the sense into you because he wasted valuable time to care, dammit.

He can also be highly emotional sometimes and obnoxious. Sometimes migraine inducing and loud. Anger is taboo around him if he can help it because it's more than difficult to keep the beast in check when his emotions are teetering on the edge. But Naruto is just a good kid inside and out. He loses his temper and loses himself. Which, again, is in the list of very, very bad things 101. In the long run though, he's spent a good portion of his life meeting people around the world and building what he likes to think are awesome friendships. Though they're never something he can bring with him. He's built a complex when it comes to people because of that. Keep those you hold dear as close as you possibly can. That's why he will fight so hard to become stronger just to match Sasuke someday. Just to bring him home and go 'See, now wasn't that stupid?'

That and the inferiority complex of this one. Jeez.

Naruto is a good friend with a sense of humor and isn't afraid to laugh or be himself. He can be charming in that goofy, silly way and is completely oblivious to how warm he can really be. Laughter is the best medicine and he enjoys more than anything sharing that happiness with those around him. He'll cling to any social bond he creates, cherishing the friendship and putting his life on the line for whomever it may be with because it is just. That. Important.

He's already accepted that bonds are one of the most important things in his life. And he's just determined enough to make it known to anyone who dare fight him on the subject.

Just take him in in small doses. You'll be fine.

APPEARANCE: Please disregard the fact that every last character in the Naruto fandom lacks a certain consideration towards fashion or at the very least clothes sane people would wear. That lovely note wouldn't be lost in AU. Naruto still has that incredibly need to hurt eyes everywhere. He's a highly saturated mess. He makes up for it by being moderately cute what with tousled blond hair and blue eyes. Vanity isn't an issue in his life because he just doesn't care enough to wear expensive things or put gunk in his hair. He always has a casual demeanor and it shows it the way he's always smiling or laughing, proud lines already beginning to show themselves at the corners of his lips. Eyes, cerulean blue. Just clear blue. Although red when 'the beast' is triggered. However, now that it's under control seeing it will be very rare. Body is of a medium build and healthily muscular for a young man his age as he's gone through a lot... a lot of tedious training to get to that point. Please, asking for him to lift you is more than allowed and in fact encouraged.

POWERS: WIND.

Naruto has the ability to concentrate the air around him. This means that with enough training and a lot of power he may actually be able to split the actual atoms of the air around him and control every last one farther down the line. But for now it's a simple 'use everything I got to control everything I can' rule of thought. There's a lot he can do with this. Like hurricanes or huge blasts that can flatten a building. His power doesn't come without concern. If used improperly he can actually hurt a great deal of people without thinking about it. Example, if he were to raise the carbon dioxide or oxygen levels without thinking about it. Too much could be lethal.

Lethal is 'the beasts' favorite word, though. When it takes over his eyes change to red and the uncontrollable urge to seek and destroy makes him black out. To control it he's practiced meditation for the last three years and likes to think he has it under control. Hopefully.

He also talks to frogs. But that's not so much a power as it is my love for parallelism him being a complete dork. DORKFISH POWERS ON.

ANYTHING ELSE?: I hate Elle. Do we get capes? I think everyone should have a cape.

- RP SAMPLES
First-person sample: This whole thing- Is it a ~thing~? Whatever. I don't care. It's something I don't like. And when I don't like something it's not just a thing. We've got an issue. AN. ISSUE.

Now listen to me here. I know some shady dudes. BUT WHO DOESN'T? There's bad humans that no one is going and pointing at and making jokes or putting them in cages! No, I guess some of them do. But they're not freaks like us is what I mean! And don't go crying to me all 'we're not freaks' 'cus I got news for you. Freaks = Us

And I like being freaky! They're just jealous. That's why they got to go and wave their fingers 'cus they can't fly or shoot flames out of their asses. WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO SHOOT FLAMES OUT OF THEIR ASS? I know I would. That would be -awesome-. That's not the point I'm making, though.

What I'm saying is...

I had it.

WHAT I'M SAYING IS... Right. Everyone has bad people. Mutants can be bad. Normals can be bad. Animals can be bad. And I heard we're all animals or.. mammals. We're all mammals. We all have hair. Or fur. Some of us have fur. BUT THE POINT HERE OK? Is that we. Should be friends.

I like friends. You can be mine? Give mutants a chaaaaaaaaaance.

End Act I. Naruto signing out.

And don't forget what I said. Or I'll bust your eardrums. 'Cus I'm a ~mutant~. Whatever.

Have an awesome day.

Third-person sample: He'd said they couldn't lay a finger on him. That it would take all their strength to get close enough to scratch him up and that they wouldn't get a chance to throw a single blow. Naruto would walk out of the simulation without so much as a scrape and look down his nose at every last person outside the danger room that doubted he would make it out alive. That's what his plan was all along. No matter what he wouldn't let himself down. Forget the fact that he didn't know what he was up against. Things like that didn't matter when his pride quickly turned on the cocky switch.

He'd walked in ready for war, ready for the bragging rights when this was all over. Five minutes at best and Naruto would be skipping out of here, waving off cameras and signing autographs.

An hour had passed since then and the growing number of simulated renegade ninjas running at him with all they had wasn't even close to slimming. He'd earned quite a few scratches and taken a good number of blows to the arm, midsection, and left thigh as well as many other places he knew were pretty bad off, but wasn't willing to look it over. Since when did fake images actually hurt?! He could see it now. Him, limping out of the room covered in battle scars, and the teacher's [if you could even call him that] stupid face, all smug. Anything was better than that. Dying- Well, maybe not.

But definitely anything else, except dying, was better than that.

However, if he didn't make it out of here alive there would be absolutely no need for self sacrifice. Naruto had been able to dodge the last shuriken that grazed right by his temple, cutting it in the process. The area stung and he quickly braced himself as he let his weight carry him down to the floor, his body sliding as it collided and leg kicking outward to knock the offender that had thrown it off his feet. But that left him open for attack and the gratuitous amount of enemies around him took quick advantage, burying him under a ninja dogpile. Had this been what he'd been ranting on about before? Getting his ass handed to him? He'd made such a big deal. Like he was some big shit. How mighty he must look right now while being turned into an Uzumaki pancake.

"Augh-... Are you kidding me?!" Still with all the weight crushing him down into the floor he was able to yell at whoever was listening. His lungs constricted tightly and he took a deep breath only to hold it for as long as he could. He would suffocate under here and he was damn sure there was someone in the control room to make it all go away. So why weren't they? Did they want to kill him? Did they really do that here? What if he couldn't get out from under the pile? Would they leave him to suffer? He squirmed and his body buckled again as the pile grew. His life could be such a bitch. And if no one was going to help him out then he'd just have to help himself. Nothing new. Why did he even hesitate in the first place?

The rare moment of distress made him act on instinct, his mind going quiet as his body did it's best to harness what energy he had left in order to compress the air around him. It was like a sonic boom; happening so fast that the room suddenly inverted and then expanded greatly all in a split second, popping all ears in the general area. His own were far too accustomed to the abuse and stayed stable enough to hear the sound of what he figured were millions of bodies flinging themselves off of him and into the surrounding walls. That's what it felt like anyway. Suddenly he was able to breath and didn't waste time in standing back up. Wobbly at best, but he managed. The area changed from the dark scene he'd been set in to both make it impossible to see and hard to manage in the dark into the white, sterile room it had been before. No bodies anywhere or further attacks.

But the pain was real and he finally looked down at himself and the areas of his body he would have to mend later in fear of being pushed toward the clinic. There was a particularly nasty cut along his abdomen that was taking his attention away from the dull thrum of noise just beyond the danger room's walls. Only out of curiosity did he look up to see the faces of his classmates, not thinking anything of it until the noise grew louder. And louder still...

Applause.

Again, it took him a moment to piece it together. And when it did a grin broke out on his face so bright that it would blind the sun. So this is what the old man had been talking about. The need to grow and all that other stupid stuff he demanded Naruto learn during his stay. For the time being Naruto was alright for this. Dying one second and then a good pat on the back the next. Admittedly it made him a little cocky and said attitude was directed right towards the teacher, voice robust as he yelled to him, "That all y'got?! Ninja, puh. Anyone can beat a ninja. Give me a real challenge!"

It was then that the Naruto-Is-Awesome party stopped and the applause died down. Naruto looked absolutely crestfallen as he stared at the window, eyebrow quirked at the all too familiar snugness firmly plastered on the teacher's face. After all that work he'd done to wipe it clear off. He wasn't just going to stand around and take that! He was already one foot out the door to go tell the jerk just that when a subtle cranking started and the floor began to rumble. Naruto backed away, his body shadowed by the severe mass of... Fuck.

Now... a simulation room was insane enough. Naruto could accept this. He was a mutant so these sorts of things aren't hard to believe. He'd even been damn happy about the results of his first venture with Institute related danger. But a ROBOT? Who are these people?!

"Level two, Mr. Uzumaki."

He looked back. That grin... was practically drilling him down into the floor. Then he looked forward and up at the gleaming eyes of the machine he'd be fighting. He sighed, tugged on his gloves and shook his head. Guess these people didn't know him well enough just yet. Of course he was dumb enough to go ahead and play the bastard's game.

"Ready when you are. Try not to lose too fast, k?" If only he knew he was talking to a man that rarely ever lost. But he could ask someone later while they scraped him off the floor. But the way that that stupid grin finally slid of teacher's face? Completely worth it.
