Personality
At the beginning of the series, Arty is an extremely smart, cold, calculating and cynical person, possessing a dry, sarcastic sense of humor and a ruthless, almost psychopathic nature. As the series goes on he becomes a less selfish individual and although at one point he’s reverted back to his previous personality (with slightly more compassion and remorse than before) he eventually goes back to his more compassionate personality.

Artemis is disturbed by how he once acted and is now much open to his own feelings, seen in the horror he feels when he thinks of what his parents must have suffered or when he’s overridden by guilt (usually because of lying or deceiving someone close to him), yet he’s still unsure as to how he’s supposed to act upon these feelings. He’s also more considerate of others and although he still seems to find amusement in using ‘pawns’ during his plans he’s very compassionate about the emotions of his friends and does take them into consideration. He is still just as obsessed with accumulating money and power, even though he is more concerned about others than himself and usually does it more to keep himself amused than for any real profit.

Although not truly a lawful person, Artemis has a good heart and follows his own set of morals. He could be labeled as a bit socially awkward but this isn’t true, Artemis is simply out of practice in interacting with people outside of business deals or exploitation. He underestimates no one and gives everyone a chance to prove themselves, understanding what it’s like to be taken on face value alone. He truly enjoys the company of others and does his best to interact with them. He’s in no way a stick-in-the-mud as he enjoys plays on words, jokes and friendly banter and is doing his best to have a somewhat normal and happy teenage experience before the chance escapes him.

Being at the physical age of 15 (it’s a long story about time travel), Artemis has to deal with going through puberty, something which infuriates him, often blaming it for making him act in more compassionate ways.

Simply put; Artemis is a child prodigy. He’s known to have the highest IQ in Europe (and most likely the world) and he uses this to his advantage, often in criminal ways. He’s capable of plotting many complicated schemes that always turn out - one way or another- in his favor. He’s an expert in psychology and has perfect pitch, creating his flair for music. Artemis is ambidextrous; however, he favors his left hand (whereas Orion favors his right). He used to possess some magic, which he stole, but quickly used it up when he attempted to heal his mother. He’s a healthy teenage boy but possesses no great skill in any physical areas. He’s a strategist, not a fighter. Although he’s currently taking martial arts lessons from his body guard he would not last long in a real fight, he is able to take a punch or two but only because his friends seem to find that a reasonable way of showing affection. He’s also recently learnt the proper way to fire a gun.

Atlantis Complex
Because of the before mentioned guilt that Artemis feels about things he’s done in his short life, he’s developed a complex. The Atlantis Complex is defined as 'a psychosis common among guilt-ridden criminals… symptoms include obsessive behavior, paranoia, delusions and in extreme cases multiple-personality disorder’.

Artemis is indeed an extreme case of this condition and some of the forms his symptoms take are as follows; Artemis is afraid of the number four, as in Chinese the word of four sounds like the word for death, even making him flinch when someone mentions the number. This has caused him to latch on the number 5 as something similar to a security blanket, leading him to tapping out beats of five, counting to five in his head, even making sure that the words in his sentences add up to something divisible by five. When condition gets into its worse stages he will have trouble entering rooms with numbers of people that are not connected to the number five or not even sit on a chair with four legs.

If these rituals he uses to calm himself are stopped or broken Artemis can have a mental breakdown, where he counts to five over and over again, whilst yelling, rejecting those around him and being unable to distinguish reality from his delusions.

His paranoia varies from being wary of people, to mistrusting of people he’s known his whole life to downright rejecting the words of everyone, accusing them of sabotage and trying to steal his ideas and even refusing to listen to what his own mind is telling him. The delusions most commonly take the form of floating, sparking, hissing fours that surround him. He can also have mood swings but he never becomes violent.

He's currently undergoing therapy and taking medication to suppress these symptoms and is determined in his own mindset not to let this condition beat him. Sometimes he’s even able to overcome them after taking a few moments to collect himself.

Note: Due to the nature of the condition it’s subject to change.

Orion
Orion is a new personality of Artemis brought on by his condition; despite being a part of Artemis the two are completely different. While he retains all of Artemis’ memories and knowledge, he does not have Artemis’ intellect. He knows the people that Artemis will have met and formed relationships with and will remember places Artemis has visited, however he does not possess the mental ability of Artemis. For example, Artemis reads many books, thus Orion remembers reading stories such as Lord of the Rings and other novels, however, he cannot remember any studious books Artemis has read as he does not possess the capacity to understand them.

Unlike Artemis, Orion is a completely open, friendly person. Because all he knows of the world he’s gathered through Artemis’ experiences, he’s unable to distinguish between fiction and reality, leading him to believe that things of fable are as likely to occur as seeing a dog. This has also affected the way he talks, leading him to address people in mannerisms such as ‘maiden’ or ‘knave’. Orion is pure good, someone who smiles off any insults and looks at the world around him in wonder. He’s often humourous but in a completely unintentional way.

How it Works
Artemis and Orion are split into a dominant and a non-dominant personality, while the dominant one is active, taking control of the body, the non-dominant one can observe what is happening, but is restricted to only that. The personalities cannot directly speak to one another, it’s implied that what the dominant one is thinking can be projected towards the non-dominant personality but it’s only the vague basic points of the idea and the non-dominant one cannot interact with the dominant in any way. (This may change in-game but for now it's like this.)

Because Orion is a creation of Artemis’ own mind, he knows all of Artemis’ thoughts and feelings, who he likes, dislikes and has feelings for, this also means when he’s observing he knows what Artemis is thinking when the boy performs certain actions or says something. In contrast, Artemis understands very little of Orion, often left baffled and embarrassed by the actions of his other self.

Currently, the only way to switch which personality is dominant is to have Artemis receive some sort of shock, such as a blaster or a taser, that sends electricity to the brain. Each time the body receives such a shock, the personalities are switched around.
