Personality: First and foremost, Hannibal Lecter is a psychopath. He is a serial killer and a damn good one, at that (though that's ... not really a good thing). Because of his traumatic past (which he refuses to speak of to anyone) he became a cannibal, with his 'trophies' from his kills being the flesh he eats. He's manipulative to the point where you might not even realize he’s manipulating you or the conversation if you’re not careful. His heart doesn’t beat any quicker when he mutilated a nurse in Silence of the Lambs, nor was he fazed when he brutally attacked two guards and calmly listened to some music afterwards.

He’s a cunning, clever man. In Red Dragon, he managed to convince a young woman to give him Will Graham’s phone number, convincingly portraying himself to be an editor and guiding her to give him the information. He has his moments of being witty, though he’s definitely a mature, serious person due to his upbringing and past. He graduated from medical school at a very young age and is extremely intelligent-he’s definitely more intelligent than he leads on, though he does appear to be a well-educated and thoughtful man. He was a psychiatrist with many patients (and an interesting note is that, for their privacy, he destroyed his patient files before he was caught and placed in the institution-loyal psychiatrist to the end) and he was exceptionally good at his job. In fact, he still uses his knowledge from that era of his life-he knows how to get under people’s skins and how to manipulate them to tell him what he wants to know. Hannibal is also the prime source for the FBI in regards to how serial killers think-both because he himself is one and because he knows how deranged/psychotic/etc etc people think and act due to his years of training.

While he is a bit of a troll, not everything he says is bullshit. While it’s true that a great percentage of things that exit his mouth are just piles of steaming shit to get a rise out of whomever he is speaking with, more often than not he has some truth/insight/riddle to his words. He can be a great asset to somebody looking to seek information about another, and while his observations/predictions/etc are not always spot-on, they are usually in the ball park and accurate enough to get a good feel of a person.

Hannibal Lecter is an exceedingly intelligent and well-educated man. He knows what most social norms are and can abide by them if need be, though he is still a psychopath. He speaks like an older gentleman, one who appreciates knowledge and enjoys word play. While he is mature, he has his immature moments-such as ‘scaring’ Will Graham on their ‘walk’, though it was to prove a point. He knows several different languages (not exactly fluently but enough to get by, with some more than others) and he is proficient in the arts. Because of his knowledge about people and his observant nature, Hannibal can deduce many things about a person just from a few moments of small talk (Clarice Starling is a prime example). His nose can either detect smells really good or he just BSes his scents in hopes of possibly terrifying those he talks to-honestly, I’m not very sure myself.

Hannibal is, despite all appearances, mentally unstable. He is insane and don’t let his behavior convince you otherwise. He went through terrible traumas growing up, which led to his becoming a psychopath/cannibal in his adult life. He can easily become obsessed with people who just want to do good things for the sake of others (Will Graham/Clarice Starling) and will do anything in his power to manipulate them and bend them to his will. He has fed human flesh to other people without any regrets, and has also eaten parts of his victims. He’s a very violent, dangerous man who “you do not want to be alone with”.

He has a compassionate side, especially in regards to Will Graham and Clarice Starling. Stubbornness is a trait he admires, as is people who are strong enough not to run screaming or get too easily upset at what he says. He enjoys calm company-those who act relatively close to him-and finds beauty in many things and people. I like to believe that he has a soft spot for children, especially if they happen to be named Mischa (his younger sister whom he lost at a young age), and that while he is not a big softie, he will not mess with children. Their parents are fair game but he’s not evil enough to want to eat the flesh of a child. He also admires ambition, though possibly only in a mocking way, and, for a ‘lucky’ few, will continue to keep in contact on the holidays to make sure that those few know that he’s still thinking about them.

But, despite some labeling him as Pure Evil, he’s only human. He has his vulnerabilities-though they in no way excuse his behavior and he knows it. Because of his traumatic past (his family being massacred, having to eat his little sister’s flesh, etc etc), he refuses to talk about his past/family because it … well, it doesn’t hurt to talk about, they just bring up painful memories. His ego, while big, can be punctured if somebody says/does the ‘right’ thing. He can feel compassion and love, but he doesn’t outwardly show his affections to people.

Hannibal is a narcissist. He’s very vain and cocky, and views himself as better than most because of his education. It’s not very prominent in his demeanor, but it’s still there. His ego is very, very huge-after all, he’s been given celebrity status and is a notorious killer. He thinks he’s hot shit and somebody to be feared, and if somebody doesn’t believe that, well-he’ll give them a reason to have nightmares about him. Being here, I imagine he’ll introduce himself as Hannibal Lecter, just to see if anybody recognizes him so he could get an ego boost for, again, being a celebrity-even with people from different worlds.

Not much in the world surprises him anymore. He’s been through a lot of shit and has seen a lot of crazy shit, so surprise isn’t a very common emotion for him. However, here in Johto, I imagine that he’ll be inwardly surprised at the whole premise/concept of pocket monsters, at the very least. So, despite the strange things happening to him, he will be calm, cool, and collected-there’s really no other way for him to behave.

Hannibal can be surprisingly patient. He’s also perceptive and the littlest details do not escape him. He keeps a close eye on his surroundings and watches out for any changes, whether they be subtle or not. While plotting/planning, he painstakingly works out every detail because he knows it’s worth it. When he speaks, also, he chooses his words carefully in order to convey the impression that he wishes to.

First Person Sample: [ Well, this is certainly a new development.

The feed starts accidentally while Hannibal is searching through his bag. He notices the red light and pulls out the PokeGear, perplexed. However, when he speaks, he is calm, cool, and collected, as well as polite. He may come off as a complete gentleman, just a nice little old man.

However, if you recognize his face from popular culture, you might be able to see through this. ]

My, the wonders of the modern world.

I do believe this is not a dream, for if it was I would be back in Italy and Clarice would be by my side. If anybody can hear this, I would like to inquire about the nature of the woman I encountered in the house I woke up in? It seems she is delusional and might need some psychiatric help.

I would offer my services but she seemed adamant in me getting out of the house as quickly as possible. [ It was as if she knew what horrific monster her not!son was. ] In any case, she is certainly unlike any other mother I have encountered. They all seem terrified for their children to leave the house, though in my experience, not one of them has ever had a child older than them. [ He finds that amusing, okay. ]

Ah, and there I go rambling. I do apologize if I inconvenienced anybody, I'm not used to speaking with no one to answer back in between breaths. This is rather new to me, though I imagine there have to be people who have been here for a while. [ He pauses. ]

It is to those individuals I direct this question: Has anybody found a way to connect to outside countries, such as the United States? I have some ... business to attend to there and I would rather not to waste any more time here. [ He searches the PokeGear for the 'send' button and the feed cuts. ]

Third Person Sample: “You are not my mother. You are simply a woman who has, perhaps, lost her own child and in your delusional fantasies kidnaps others to replace the child that you lost. It’s very common among grieving mothers, and I see that you live alone, as well. Did you lose your husband and child? Was it an accident, or by your hand? What is your name, my dear? May I have your name?” As Hannibal spoke, the woman began to shake slightly. He had begun speaking at the top of the stairs - called downstairs by his ‘mother’ - and now he had reached the floor, one hand on the railing as he studied her. His eyes searched her face, her body, looking for something to help him figure out why he was here. She certainly didn’t hold herself like somebody who was delusional, but perhaps she was like him, intelligent enough to mask her true self. Then again, maybe she was too far down the rabbit hole.

“I-I am your mother and you cannot speak to me like that!” Her voice shook as she spoke, standing behind the counter with a look of terror on her face. Hannibal shook his head softly.

“Tsk, tsk, I have already told you that you are not my mother. Now, dear, your name? I must have your name to address you properly.” His voice took on a condescending tone as he took a step towards her.

“M-My name is Mom.” Hannibal sighed. Normally he would have the patience to deal with a clearly troubled woman like her, but he was needed in America. He didn’t have all day to dilly-dally wherever he was - it certainly wasn’t a dream (Clarice wasn’t here) nor was it the afterlife (denouncing faith meant that you weren’t to be accepted into an afterlife, right?), and he didn’t particularly care for specifics at the moment, he just wanted a way out of here.

“Ah, I see. Look at me, darling-do I look like your son? I am old enough to be your father, dear. And my dear mother - bless her soul - looks nothing like you. What province are you from in Japan? The layout of this home definitely resembles the houses of rural Japan and I’m curious if you were born there or if you just thought it looked pretty. Tell me, are you a typical lonely housewife?" He paused, staring at her intently. After a few moments of silence, he continues to speak.

“In any case, I must make my leave. I have important business to tend-“ Mom regained her confidence and points to the table, still a little shaky. Hannibal turned his head to the table where there was a strange device and a backpack awaiting him.

“Don’t for-forget your PokeGear, dear! D-Do you remember how to make a phone call?” It sounded to Hannibal almost like she had a script she was supposed to be reading, and Hannibal looked up. Was this some sort of trap by the FBI? Were there cameras, was she wired? Was he wired?

… He would worry about that later. The woman moved from her position behind the counter and came towards Hannibal. She handed him the bag and shoved the PokeGear into his hands. She might have said something before but Hannibal didn’t pay any attention. “Well-- you really must be on your way! The Professor is waiting for you and you mustn’t be late!”

“My dear, you really must get some counseling. I can recommend a good grief counselor back in the United States, though I can’t be certain she’ll respond well to me recommending a client. Do take care of yourself, dear, and try not to abduct any others for your own sake. The local police force might not be too happy about too many missing persons showing up in this town.” He turned his back on her and walked out, the door slamming shut as soon as he stepped out.
