Perhaps it is the feeling of accomplishment you get from achieving something. Besides even that, it does seem to be the standard of this world. The same rules of animal cruelty do not likely apply.

Yes, and they can be fixed as well. As you said, they themselves like it. There is something to the feeling of being knocked down, and beaten, yet surviving and coming out stronger for it.
