[The video shows Teru in New Bark Town, outside the house of that woman who is certainly not his mother... He's looking paler than usual, clearly disturbed, and takes a moment to compose himself before speaking ( Read more... )

[The man doesn't look familiar in the least, but L uses caution, regardless, in addressing him. The audio is on, rather than the video, and he keeps his normally pedantic voice in something like a lighter tone.]

I've heard of it happening, but it certainly must be a shock, mustn't it?

Could you describe this person? It's a relatively common name in Japan, I understand.

Yes, of course. [It's occurred to him that any description might apply to either of them, but he'll pretend he doesn't know that. He's just a lawyer, isn't he? One who knows nothing more of L or Kira than anyone from his world might.

He doesn't recognise the voice.]

He's pale, thin, has permanently messy black hair and dark circles under his eyes. You'd remember him if you saw him, I'm sure. He has a way of staring.

We arrived at the same time, and he - attached himself to me.

[L bites his thumb. That description was a little uncanny.]

A way of staring? How odd. Did he ever indicate that "Ryuzaki" was not his real name?

[...that's an interesting choice of question.

Teru adjusts his glasses, trying to think. Normally, he wouldn't have hesitated to add 'and he's a psychotic serial killer, don't go anywhere near him' to the end of that description. But Beyond Birthday knows too much, and he made fairly clear what would happen if Teru tried to expose him. He can't risk Kira's identity, and he doesn't know who he's speaking to - but he can't leave that maniac running around Johto unsupervised, can he?]

It's not. So I'm told.
