A small bio on Ootori! Personality:
One thing you can almost immediately point out about Ootori is that he’s pretty much a genuine Nice Guy on the outside; calm, good-natured, and polite, he is well-liked by adults and elderly people and can generally be seen as a wonderful role model for other teenage boys. In fact, when compared with the other members of Hyoutei’s regulars (who range from bitchy jerkfaces to narcoleptic stalkers), it could be said that he is a pillar of sanity among them. Despite his tall stature (185cm at age 13), he is very much a gentle giant, with a fondness for animals like cats and birds. He is quite serious and mature for his age, which might make him seem “boring” to some of his peers. In addition to his maturity, he is also honest, loyal and dedicated to his close friends and family, sticking with them through thick and thin. Ootori is definitely not a doormat, though; he can be quite stubborn depending on the situation, and will (politely) let you know his opinion. He’s not incapable of anger, however it takes a lot to get him riled up and even then he will rarely raise his voice against someone.
On the inside, however, Ootori is quite reserved. Since he is bad with over-familiar people, he tends to shy away from them. Unfortunately for him, though, he is weak with forceful people and will sometimes end up having to associate with people he doesn’t really like. Despite having many connections and acquaintances, he strongly cherishes his personal space, and therefore might adopt a strange, aloof attitude towards people who are pushy and forward.
A significant relationship he has in his canon is with his doubles partner, Shishido Ryou. His first appearance with him (which doubles, no pun intended, as his first speaking role in the series) establishes his character very nicely: Shishido, who had been kicked out of the regulars after a crushing defeat, was literally begging their coach to take him back; Ootori had helped Shishido with his training (that involved him taking 200km/h serves to his face) and was ready to support his senpai. He did not expect, however, to be asked if he would give up his valued position as a regular in his place. His answer, after a moment of silence, was “I don’t mind.” Of course, in the end he kept his regulars position and Shishido got his back, but that one scene highlights his selfless nature when confronted with a serious decision at a moment’s notice. After their debut as doubles partners, the two are rarely seen without one another. Ootori’s relationship with Shishido is one of dedication, respect, and trust.
Despite all this, Ootori is still a thirteen year old boy, and it definitely shows. He is easily influenced by what happens around him and can sometimes be a little impulsive, especially when one of his friends are involved. He can jump to conclusions very easily, and when upset, he can act rather childishly, though he is quick to notice his faults. Ootori is also really idealistic, and even wishes for world peace.
He’s terrified of frogs, too.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ good at tennis. Being a regular at Hyoutei of all schools requires serious talent and skill.
+ athleticism. He’s physically fit and in good shape!
+ strength and height. He’s 185cm tall and has a serve that goes over 200km/h, so yeah. A lot of upper body strength!
+ devotion to his friends. Once you’ve befriended him, you’ve got a loyal and honest friend by your side until the end (or until you break his trust)
+- stubborn. He can be amazingly stubborn at times, and it’s hard to get him to change his mind.
+- maturity. For a 13 year old, he’s very mature. However, that means that there are times when he takes things too seriously and needs to be told to relax.
- impulsive. He can sometimes act childishly and act before thinking, especially when he’s upset.
- tends to jump to conclusions.
- a little naive and idealistic.
- he can be a little bit of a... crybaby.
- Shishido. While he currently isn’t in Route, Ootori is extremely close to his doubles partner; when it comes to Shishido, all most logic flies out the window.

[the feed clicks on, giving view to Ootori and Freya surrounded by trees and not much else. Unusually, his hair is windswept and messy, as if he had just ran an entire marathon. After a quick, absentminded attempt to flatten his hair, he peers into the camera and smiled somewhat sheepishly.]
Um, we’re in Ilex Forest right now. Freya flew off chasing a Pidgey and I went after her... now we’re a little lost.
[as he said this, the Swablu trilled guilty. Ootori paused to look at her, and made a small, fond smile as he gave her a gentle pat on her head.] Don’t worry, I’m not mad.
[he turns back to the screen]
Is it possible if anyone is able to help us and get us out of here? It’s going to get dark soon, and I’m afraid trying to find a way out of here might get us even more lost. Any help will be appreciated; I promise to return the favour later.
[with a hopeful smile and a small bow, the video feed clicks off]

“... hello, there.”
The blue bird with cotton wings trilled in reply.
To be completely honest with himself, Ootori had no idea how to react in the situation he was in right now. Waking up in a bed and room that was not his was rather... jarring, to say the least, and the note did not help at all. Pokemon, he had recalled in disbelief. Shishido-san had lent him his Pokemon Red a while ago and while he couldn’t really get into it (although Shishido-san insisted that he’d keep it for at least a week before giving it back), he knew the premise: you are a “trainer” who catches Pokemon and make them battle with each other, challenging gyms along the way. And to think that he was in this exact situation...
He snapped back to reality when the bird trilled again, hopping around the carpeted floor while looking a little concerned for her spaced out trainer. Ootori blinked, and slowly gave a small smile. Even if he didn’t recognize what Pokemon it was, it at least looked friendly enough. And it was very cute too.
He slowly kneeled down from the bed to the floor, and held out his right hand as a tentative greeting. It was definitely not like the birds he was familiar with from the gardens, and he didn’t have any food on him -- what do Pokemon eat, anyway? -- but if he really going to be stuck with this tiny bird for the time being, not that he completely minded, he might as well try and make friends.
The bird Pokemon stared at his open palm for a moment or two, and Ootori was wondering if he did something wrong until it suddenly unfolded it’s fluffy white wings and took off.
Before he knew it, the bird Pokemon was perched on his head, and it was clearly making itself comfortable.
After a moment of confusion, he just chuckled and stood up, a little surprised at how light it was. “I guess you’re happy up there, huh?” he mused, trying to gaze up at it... which was a little difficult, considering it was on his head.
“Swablu, blu!” The Pokemon tweeted, clearly content about its new perch.
Ootori smiled. “Nice to meet you too.”
