Character

Name: Little Mac

Series: Punch Out!! Wii

Timeline: Mid-Canon; After beating the minor circuit, but before entering Major circuit

Canon Resource Links: http://punchout.wikia.com/wiki/Little_Mac

Affiliation: Trainer

Personality: Mac is, above all else, a headstrong young man. No matter how many times he's shot down or how many times he fails, he comes right back to try again. Set on becoming a boxer, he searched out a trainer even after being rejected two hundred times. His determination is so great that he's even managed to will himself out of a near knock out to keep fighting in a match. That's not to say he doesn't get discouraged at times, but he's usually quick to get over it and jump right back in to give it another go.

He's also a pretty trusting kid, as long as you don't give him a reason not to trust you. For example, Mac follows the guidance of his trainer, Doc Louis, unquestioningly. Admittedly, Doc says some...questionable things at times, but as far as Mac is concerened, Doc would never steer him wrong. More than just boxer and coach the two share a deep friendship.

However, he also seems to have a kind of humble innocence. Where other boxers, such as Super Macho Man, take full advantage of their celebrity status as they rise through the ranks, Mac stays the same, working hard without becoming arrogant or corrupted by his own fame. He actually seems to be a little put off by the sudden rush of commercial sponsors and fans his newfound fame has brought him and isn't quite sure how to handle it all, needing Doc's help to deal with it.

But even Mac, apparently, can get tired. After defending his championship against all his previous opponents, rather than go for a long reign, he decides to go out in a blaze of glory and fight a string of opponents, retiring after three defeats. Despite Doc's initial misgivings about this idea, Mac insists, prefering to go down in history as a true champion and seeing what else life has in store for him, rather than dragging out his reign as champion for what could possibly be the rest of his life.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

As a professional boxer, Mac is very athletic. Hard working and optimistic, he's done a lot of training in order to make up for his small stature in comparison to the bigger more experienced boxers in the WVBA. He's also quite perservering, always willing to try again, even after a particularly awful loss. He's at his best when he has someone to coach him or point him in the right direction.

However, Mac is also...less than bright. One look at that goofy victory smile can tell you that. He may be a pro boxer, but he's still a 17 year old; he's a good kid, but a little mischief wouldn't be out of the question for him. It also means he has a lack of life experience and at times has a hard time knowing how to react to something he's not prepared for.

Samples

(Please note that both samples must take place in Route_29’s setting.)

First Person Sample:

[The audiofeed crackles on in what seems to be the middle of a conversation, the speakers seemingly unaware.]

-a journey? What? Lady, you seem real nice and stuff, but you ain't my Ma. Also, I dunno what "journey" you're talkin' about. The only "journey" I gotta take is down to the gym. Doc hates it when I'm late!

"The gym? Just starting and you're already thinking about battling gymleaders! Such an enthusiastic boy! Good luck, dear! Work hard!"

Wh-
Hey, wait a minute, what are you even talking abou-

H-Hey! HEY! Lady! Stop shovin' me!

[The sound of a door slamming can be heard, after which there are a few moments of silence.]

Uh...

This...

This ain't New York.

Third Person Sample:

Mac stood, staring at his new surroundings. This wasn't the Bronx. It wasn't even New York.

It was very much like Mac imagined Oklahoma to be.

"Oh, man," he muttered to himself, "That blow to the head I took last match musta been harder n' I thought! I'm havin' one o' those crazy punch to the head dreams, ain't I? Okay. Okay, maybe if I think real hard about it, I'll wake up. Alright."

Mac closed his eyes.

Wake up.

WAKE UP.

WAKE.

UP.

He opened them again.

Still there.

"Dang!"

Frowning, the young boxer sat down to think.

"Huh. This grass feels pretty...real for a dream. I wonder if this is some kinda new training Doc cooked up. Seems kinda extreme compared to the bike thing, though. I mean, dumpin' me in the middle o' nowhere like this? Just make me jog in the rain or somethin', geez."

He began to look through the pack his "mother" had so cheerfully dumped into his arms before forcing him outside. Trail mix, some soap, oh nice, some underpants, toothpaste...

"What's this?" Mac wondered aloud, holding up a small red and white sphere. "Some kinda messed up baseball?"

He continued inspecting it curiously before pushing the strange white button on its side. The boy cried out as a flash of light burst forth from the ball. The light soon faded and a strange creature stood before him, scowling. It looked vaguely human with bandage-like markings on its wrists and stomach.

Mac stood and approached the strange being carefully. "Hey there, little guy. Uh...You...wouldn't happen to be able to tell me where I am or...WHOA!"

The creature lunged forward and took a swing at him. Jumping back, Mac took on a boxing stance. "C'mon now, little guy! I don't fight...kids...or...weird monkeys...or whatever you are, so just cool out, okay?!"

The strange animal hopped back, inspecting Mac's stance from a distance before plopping down on the grass and spitting out a sharp "Rouge. Rouge, ty! Tyrouge!"

Mac sat once more and went back to rummaging through his pack for anything that might be helpful, making sure to keep a wary eye on the ill tempered...whatever that sat a few feet away.

"Man, what have I even gotten into...?"

Additional Note:

I am apping him as he appears in the 2009 game (going along with the circuit lineup from that game as well), but as it is more or less a remake and there's nothing to suggest it doesn't take place in the 80s as the original does, I'm playing Mac as if he is from that time period.
