(As I am playing Iris from a time period that we know existed but was not playable in game, I’m mostly basing her personality off what I know of her college sweetheart romance with “Feenie” and the way she behaves in 3:5.)
Despite being twenty five years of age, Iris’ frail and thin looking body gives her the appearance of a much younger woman. She is quite beautiful, but unlike Dahlia, doesn’t use her beauty to get what she wants, and quite possibly isn’t even aware that she is anything more than average in the looks department. Iris’ self confidence is very low, and she relies on others to make decisions for her. This may tie back to her strange and one-sided feelings towards her twin, Dahlia. This could also have resulted because of the circumstances of her childhood.
Iris was born in Kurain to Morgan Fey and an unnamed husband. This husband took Iris and Dahlia with him when he left Morgan and married another woman, who also had a daughter named Valarie. Deciding that two daughters was enough, her father abandoned Iris at Hazakura. This feeling of abandonment compels Iris to be extremely loyal to her friends, and she constantly fears desertion and hatred by those she loves. This fear along with her love for her sister causes her to be loyal to Dahlia; even though her sister has committed heinous crimes.
Iris is very obedient when instructed to do something, and feels very guilty when she is unable to complete a task. She is also very affectionate towards those she cares about. She has a close, almost mother-daughter bond with Sister Bikini. Iris fell in love with Phoenix Wright while pretending to be Dahlia, and her strong affection for him gave her the power to oppose even her sister, whom she otherwise would have adored and obeyed above anyone else.
Iris is a shy girl, and she has the unfortunate habit to stutter when she’s nervous. Despite this setback, her gentle nature and natural beauty allows her to make many friends and gain the respect of many. Like her sister, Iris seems to be the perfect woman-and in Iris’ case it might actually be true. Iris is almost too sweet, however, as is shown in her sappy college romance with “Feenie”. She has matured some since then, mostly as a result of a combination of aging and the weight of the “sins” she and her sister have committed.
Strengths/Weaknesses :
Strengths: Iris’ greatest strength is her compassion for others. Because of her affection for Phoenix, she was able to stall Dahlia’s attempt to take his life and, had she known about Dahlia’s second attempt beforehand, she surely would have attempted to stop her. “I would have done whatever was necessary to stop her. Even if it meant her life…or mine.” Also, her compassion gives her conviction. Iris is a soft spoken girl and tries her hardest to appease those she cares about. Often, she just goes along with whatever her friends or family are doing even if it might not be the right thing to do (her loyalty to Dahlia is a prime example of this). But, her love for Phoenix gave her the power to stand up to Dahlia and protect Phoenix. Once she has made up her mind about something, practically nothing can change her opinion.
Her loyalty to others is both a strength and a weakness. This trait allows her to forge strong and lasting friendships with others and to be trusted by others in return. However, this can also lead to her being loyal to the wrong people. Iris was so loyal towards her sister that she aided her in many a foul plot. Iris also attempts to protect Dahlia as she doesn’t want Dahlia’s soul to be damaged by further crimes. This is a crime in itself despite her good intentions.
Weaknesses: Iris’ caring nature is a weakness in itself. Iris has her opinions, but tends to keep them to herself. She is a follower, not a leader, and when instructed to do so, she will do things she knows are wrong just to please others. Iris’ desire to do what others want and not what she wants, and combined with her naivety, makes her an easy target for manipulation and mistreatment. This weakness is a major flaw, as it caused her to protect her sister’s crimes, and fool Phoenix into thinking she was Dahlia. She does these things out of a desire to help others, but altering crime scenes and aiding a murder are not small charges.
Another of her weaknesses is her ability to feel extremely guilty. Because she refused to help her sister steal the jewel from their father (3:4), Iris feels she betrayed Dahlia and can’t refuse to help her any longer. This guilt also drove her to become a nun after the events of 3:1 to atone for her sins in protecting Dahlia, and for her crime of deceiving Phoenix. However, she makes it clear that she hates even the idea of spirit channeling and has no spiritual power at all. Guilt for her sister’s mistreatment by her parents, and the lack of love from a parental figure in her life causes Iris to feel bad for her sister and she continues to love Dahlia despite all the crimes she has committed, or attempted to commit. “She already had so much to answer for; I didn’t want any more sins on her soul.” Iris is constantly afraid that her secrets will be discovered, and so can be a bit paranoid and frightened of anyone who is involved.
