003 [In Cherrygrove City]

[He's in the Pokémon Center since he'd rather not stay with all of Weiss in their resting spot. Nagi can handle Mamoru, but the four of them together is a bit much. Behind him, Schuldig the Psyduck pokes at two eggs curiously. Nagi just sighs when he notices that.]

[Even though he's seen this question asked several times before, Envy is always pinged by it.]

Yeah. Everyone loses their powers. [Definitely a note of bitterness in his tone there.]

[Bitterness noted. He can sympathize completely.]

What a pain.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Welcome to being human. Doesn't get any better, but you might get used to it eventually.

Being a normal human is annoying. I don't know if I want to get used to it.

[Ken's noticed that. Well, not like he expected anything different. It's making him wonder how it'll go when they leave Cherrygrove behind though--will Mamoru and Nagi separate themselves?]

Well, even us 'normal' people have something we're good at. You can find something new.

[The Psyduck gets a small smile. Derpy thing.]

...it's not much comfort, but it might be something.

The only other thing I'm good at is computers.

[And there doesn't seem to be much use for those skills here. The technology is mostly simple and yet foreign. It'll take getting used to.]

Well, think of this as a chance to find something else that wouldn't have ever occurred to you before. We don't have to be anything here except for what we want to be.

[That last sentence hits one of Nagi's few sore spots. He never had much choice in his path at home but here, there's nothing but choices ahead of him. It's strange.]

I might.

[He raises an eyebrow when he notices the cast, but he doesn't ask about it. It's not his business even if he was more than barely curious about a stranger.]

I hope I get used to it, then.

How many people here had some power at home?

[The Psyduck seems happy to be noticed and walks over to her, for once lacking its usual headache.]

[Yay laziness.]

Maybe we are supposed to rely on them for everything.

[He's really trying not to smile at the Psyduck. Giving that thing to such an intelligent, antisocial kid seems... well, okay, it's hilarious, but only because Youji knows Nagi isn't as much of a heartless bastard as the rest of Schwarz.]

I think it's just that thing specifically that makes you unlucky.

[Nagi doesn't hate the Psyduck as much as it seems like, but it does drive him crazy most of the time.]

I don't like relying on other things though. Especially him.

[Schuldig is at least trying to keep the eggs safe, which is more than Nagi expected.]

Then why'd you join Schwarz and Eszett?

[Blunt. To the point.]

I wouldn't be too hard on that duck you got there. You'd be surprised at just how handy these pokemon things can be. Maybe it'll be more useful after it grows.

[Slightly hypocritical of Sanji there, but what're you gonna do]

I know how useful a lot of them can be, but this one isn't good for anything for a long time.

[He turns the PokéGear back towards the Psyduck, who is now curled in a corner clutching its poor head.]

It does that most of the time, even in fights.
