[The Psyduck turns on the Pokégear when he runs around to squirt Nagi's new little Piplup for no good reason. Piplup, in turn, squirts him right back until Psyduck gets a headache. Once Nagi comes into view, he faintly smiles at the two little birds.]Since they turned it on, I may as well ask this -- does anyone here focus on a type like the gym ( Read more... )

I mostly work with flying pokémon... But it is never a bad investment to have at least one or two pokémon of other types, to avoid getting hit by a weakness...

Secondary types can be helpful too.

Flying seems like it would be even harder than Water to work with. Thank you for reminding me of secondary types.

I have only found a small number of flying types that are not weak to electric types... However most ghost types have good aerial maneuverability and are not weak to electric attacks.

That does leave some more leeway. [He might be taking this too seriously xDD]

I'll start doing the same with Water. I should have another egg hatching soon to get extra information from.

Why would you focus on one type? It leaves you open to too many weaknesses.

[So says Riku, who tries to have one of almost every type. Except grass.]

Have you even seen how often the Gym Leaders lose?

Because it's a nice challenge.

We don't have to lose like the leaders do, or even get badges if we don't want to.

I guess, but what if you run into someone with electric or grass types? Unless you've got a ground or a flying type move, you'd be walking on thin ice.

[...Well, water can use ice type moves, but. He shrugs.]

But if you really want to stick to one type, I suggest getting a Totodile or Squirtle.

Woopers are Water and Ground, so electricity doesn't bother them. I have an egg for one that'll hatch soon.

Thanks for the tip on the others.

In a way. I'm working on a team that's one basic type, and another that's varied.

What type?

Rock. I've got some Ground and Steel in there too, since they work well together though.

That makes sense.

I had considered it for some time; at the moment, many of my own are either ice and water or ghost-types.

What's interesting about ghosts?

From what I've seen, they have few weaknesses. And both of mine have particular moves that are quite useful in a difficult battle.

I had considered it but like you said, water has its weaknesses, I think all Pokemon are weak against something. It's better to be well rounded I think, have one Pokemon that is strong against every type you face.

That would mean having a lot of Pokémon.

Perhaps, but I believe that is the point to Pokémon, to gather all the species that you can.

Maybe. And maybe the point's different for each of us.
