Find a climbing wall. No joke- a great place to meet cool people. You might have to bring someone already know to belay you, but everyone there seems pretty approachable. If not, hell-you're still climbing and having fun. Is there a rock gym or big outdoor adventure store anywhere near you?
Other than that- just be yourself to people who wouldn't expect it. I was lifeguarding once, where I genereally become just another peice of the scenerey. I really remember the few people who actually bothered to have conversations with me, and I'm sure you've got a big enough pair to cross that stupid line that separates customers from people. Office space style.

I'm only saying this because of experience and because I wuvs you: Girls don't necessarilly make anything better. Those that seem nice at first go downhill often times because both peoples' psychosis bounce off of each other and get bigger. Friends are cool, though it is hard to meet people outside of school or whom your own friends haven't introduced you to. Anyway, good shooting, and you'll meet some people to hang out with, even if it takes a little while.
I'm watching "Labryinth" special edition on the new big screen TV. I know that doesn't answer the question, I just wanted to mention I was watching "Labryinth". I'm still in Colorado Springs, stationed to Fort Carson. I'll be here for another year or so, then I'll either be going to college on a Green to Gold scholarship, or I'll be heading back to war. You still at the same cell phone number? We'll do something while I'm home on Christmas Exodus, maybe some food and drink? I plan to take over Tim's kitchen for a day and cook, if his mom lets me (whatddya say Tim? You know your mum loves me ^_^). I read in your LJ you've had a rough month, problems with recruits. I've heard MA is a tough state to recruit in. You keep the faith brother, we need you, we need your kids. We have the greatest job in the world, and I try to share my enthusiasm for the work with my joes everyday. It's infectious - show 'em the leaders care, and the joes will care too!! Take it easy. Keep in touch, we'll party for Christmas!!
