I've long held that television shows, novels, movies--all of our cultish texts--function in an increasingly secularized society in much the same way the shared mythologies of religion have cemented cultures before us. The entirety of the 10th Doctor. I don't even remember anymore because it made me so mad and annoyed me so much that I dismissed it all as crap and I don't really intend to watch it again.
