I'm not sure I'll ever understand that part of SPN fandom that thinks the Winchester brothers have this super-rosy completely loving and supportive relationship ( Read more... )

I said something the other day to someone about how Lisa and Ben were not the life Dean wanted and you woulda thought I crapped on her shoes with the look she gave me.

People keep confusing what Dean wants with what Sam wants and with what they personally would consider an ideal (which is often in line with what Sam wants.) Dean is a family guy but he doesn't want an insta-family--he wants his mom back and for his life to be that vein of normal from the start--basically "What Is and What Should Never Be." But even in that episode he had that heart-to-heart with his father's tombstone about being a hero etc. Because Dean has a very strong moral center and his own code that he only ever violates when it comes to Sam. That's where the Ben and Lisa thing comes into play--that's not something he would do or want except he promised Sam.

(Also, just a sidenote, but the first time I knew I was hopelessly in love with SPN was when Ben wasn't his kid. If he had been I was ready to turn off the show forever because I fucking hate that trope. It's like someone isn't a whole human being unless they've left some sort of offspring somewhere? I guess I makes for good ~drama~ too or something, but I'm so sick of it ( ... )

Oh man I was right there with you. I was like "So help me, Supernatural. I will hurt you."

I watched the entire show start to finish in the month of June or something like that, and I think I said "So help me, Supernatural. I will hurt you!" at least four times a season--sometimes five times an episode. And every. single. time. I was like "ooooh you perfect fuckers." Because they not only avoided the thing that would have been cliche and made me hate them, but they instead did something AMAZING or had an awesome twist, or were just fantastic in their storytelling.

Which is how I arrived at this particular place of perfect calm and happiness for this show. They could have done wrong so many times and they haven't once. They own me body and soul for that and I trust them completely.
