Eddie seems to be taking to the "house cat" idea, as long as he's able to leave again at some point -- I think the walls start to close in after a few hours. I'm positive he'll make an excellent pet, and equally positive he'll always maintain his independent streak.
Bro-Cat is still pretty much 100% feral, and I suspect he'll always be that way. We're trying though! (I think part of the reason Eddie always bails out at some point and stays away for a little while is that he's meeting up with Bro-Cat. It seems like a shame to separate them, but I'm talking to the Feral Cat Coalition re info on their "trap, neuter, release" program. I think for Bro-Cat, this sounds like the best solution possible, 'cuz I'm just not seeing him as a house cat!)
Trying to gain their trust has been (and is) a pretty awesome venture. Rewarding for me, as well as for the hungry critters living in my yard. ;->
The Universe decides whether or not you have a cat, and we humans have very little say in the matter. It sounds like you are doing the right things by Bro-Cat... they don't soon forget where there is easy food and non-threatening Two Legs.
In any case, Eddie looks like he has full-on adopted you (and you have no choice!). He has made a wise decision. Enjoy him!

I love cats at that stage. I got lucky with an adoption from the shelter - he's six moving on seven and still all paws.
Can hardly wait for more updates...
