Legalize MJ to save MEDICAL use from healthy pot snobs....

Jun 02, 2010 07:45

In the fourteen years since California's Prop 215's passage, I'd never bought medical marijuana from a Dispensary, and everyone who knows me knows why: it's too damned expensive. It's been a source of constant -- if rather minor -- irritation that growers actually charge more for the less-risky option, than dealers on the street command for ( Read more... )

This is really interesting. You know, when I was diagnosed with glaucoma a few months ago and began to tell people about it, the first thing most of my friends told me was "Hey, you're eligible for medical MJ now!" Even though my eyedrops completely control my pressure.

Yeah, wouldn't you just love to have glaucoma, too?

Heh, that reminds me of my experiences with a Wasting Disease: "Oh, you can eat whatever you want and not gain weight? Must be nice!" Uhm, no, actually...it really isn't. :o

Glad to hear the drops are doing the trick! :->

That really is disappointing. As far as the relatively healthy using them, their target is obviously a mostly male market since women would use them for relieving cramps.

An interesting point, and one I'd never thought of before. Now that I have, I do think you're right, that (young) males are the target market -- similar to the way they used to be for booze and cigarette ads. The guys who have the best pot then go on to "get" the best chicks? Females who want the best smoke would then go on and "get" a guy with access to it, I guess....

Hmm, a specialty Dispensary geared toward females seems like it might could be a money maker! In "another life" I'd probably have been tempted to go out and find backers with the intent of starting up such a thing... . ;->

I'm surprised, but I suppose I shouldn't be, since this is completely in line with the way the world seems to work. *sigh*

I blame the State for the current climate. Immediately after the passage of 215, something that looked like it would be very cool sprang up: a pile of helpful folks, from health pros to old hippies, teaching folks to grow their own, which led to "Cannabis Cooperatives."

Which were promptly busted by the Feds, with the assistance of California cops -- places with a bunch of people all growing in the same space = places where there's a LOT of marijuana, which = "large" busts that can be trumpeted on the nightly news.

While such "gold mines" were available and easily found (because we gave them our locations), the Dispensaries were mostly ignored. Thus was the current "Dispensary Climate" born.

My neurologist originally gave me a script for cannabis, also in accordance with the law under Prop 215. He -- along with thousands of other docs in California -- was contacted by the Medical Board for this. He then rescinded his prescription -- sending me the news in a Registered Letter -- and told me this action was due to fear for his ( ... )

In Canada, there's currently research being done into these cannabinoids and their impact on the medical use of cannabis. Nothing similar is being done in the U.S., and since -- oh come on, everyone fuckin' knows it! -- the vast majority of "patients" with "medical marijuana ID cards" are "suffering" from "medical conditions" such as "headache," "anxiety," and "insomnia" that are "treated" via the mechanism of "a good, clean high, lovely aroma, tight, dense, purple buds, and a taste straight out of heaven" ... that's what they breed for in their strains.I-am-sorry-to-hear-that-your-experience-with-dispensary-meds-was-so-bad ( ... )

When I was testing the strains, "California Orange" really did stand out for me as being something that probably would be good for folks with things like depression and anxiety -- it really was a clean high, with the old "feelings of well being" extremely strong from a psychological standpoint -- it was just the pain and contractures (some of my main symptoms) for which it was useless. So I'd recommend that one for you ( ... )

Interesting. I had wondered what the dispensaries were like. I haven't smoked pot in years, but am also surprised at all of the breeding for effects.

Sorry it didn't work out. :-(

In California, it's a huge business. After my initial surprise, it started making sense -- it's not Granny with the glaucoma that's made growing such a huge success, it's Freddy Fratboy and his uncle Businessman Bob who are dropping $400 per ounce!!! on a semi-regular basis ...so that's who you want your product to appeal to.

Even if I'd gotten great results, the Dispensaries wouldn't be for me -- still way too expensive. I'm serious about being able to buy the exact same strains from a pot dealer for cheaper!
