That sucks. :(

Sol knows some of the guys at Orpheus Records (3173 Wilson Blvd., Arlingtron VA 22201, 703-294-6774). That's where we sold the bulk of our vinyl before moving.

Thanks, Chris. :*

We were able to find a buyer for the entire collection before Mary passed peacefully, in Hospice at the end. It looks like her partner will be able to stay in the house, at least till she's more back on her feet and able to deal with the longer-term considerations; she'll probably sell the place and look for something smaller eventually, but it eases all our minds to know she won't be out on the street unprepared.

My sister's pain and struggles are over, now. This does bring comfort to those of us who loved her.

Thanks again for your kind words, and your suggestions!

We're total strangers but I saw this on the metro_dc comm and was thinking -- have you tried the Washington DC or NoVA areas of Reddit? I think they'd be a lot more active than an LJ comm right now.

My condolences to your family -- I'm very sorry.

Hi there,

Thanks for your kind words, and your suggestions! :-)

My sis died peacefully, in Hospice at the end. It's a sad time, but it's good that her pain and struggles are now over.

We found a buyer for the entire collection, and her partner got the money. It looks like she'll be able to keep the house, at least till she's more on her feet and able to deal with things.

Not the best outcome possible, but the best possible outcome, in the circumstances.

Thanks again!

I'm so very sorry to hear this. You are in my thoughts, and I will light a candle for your sister and hope that she will not have too rough a go of what time she has left.

I have a friend who buys tons of vinyl at garage sales and the like and lists them on eBay with some success, if you would like to shoot me your email address I can have him maybe contact you about the best way to go about listing them there.

It might be a lot less hassle though to find someone willing or interested in taking the lot of them, though I wouldn't know anything about how to go about doing that. Just hope since money is such an issue (and isn't it always?!?), that I'd almost wonder which way would yield the best return.

I know it's hard to think about that kinda stuff right now, but I wish you all the best and if you need anything, you know where to find me and I will do anything that I possibly can for you.

Much love to you and your family.

Hi Penny,

Thanks so much for your kind words, and your suggestions.

We were able to find a buyer for the entire collection, before Mary died -- a DJ who wanted to use them for sampling and such. Mary actually got a kick out of the idea that her old stuff would be getting some modern use, and especially the idea that they were going to someone who'd enjoy and have fun with them!

She was in Hospice at the end, and it was peaceful. Her pain and struggles are over now, and that brings comfort to those of us who loved her.

Still dealing with a bit of fallout and aftermath, but our noses are all poked back up from the water now, and life does, indeed, go on.

I hope you're still digging the new place, and that Life, the Universe, Etc., are treating you right! :*

XO,
RD

Thanks, Kala Devi. :*

The folks at Hospice told us that, at the very end, there was a woman in my sis's room playing the harp for her -- they said that both the dying people and the family members seem to find it soothing, and the music seems to help the person let go and face the transition more easily.

I totally thought of you when I heard that! :-)

There's been more fallout and more aftermath (as you can probably imagine), but I'll always be comforted by the knowledge that Mary had the "best death possible," free from pain and as free from worry as we could make it from the other side of the map.

My new gig as "Priestess of Life" (aka Grandma X 10 hrs per day, LOL) keeps me from getting bogged down in the aftermath BS.

There is, indeed, much joy in the journey, every step of the way.

Prema.

XO,
RD
