there is a difference in the beat between a swing and a cha cha :-p. Cha cha goes 1 2 3 & 4 | 5 6 7 & 8 Swing goes more like 1 2 3 &4 | 5 6 7 &8 the beats aren't evenly spaced like cha cha.
aside from that, it was a lot of fun. it was great dancing with you, as it always is when you're in town :)
what i was trying to say, is that the beats in various types of swing songs (west coast doesn't count) are not all in integral parts. so cha cha has the basic quarter notes and eight notes which are played as exactly one quarter or one eight a measure. swing notes don't do that. swing notes "stick" to one side or another you have an extra pause on one side or the other of that eight note. so songs can have that "strait" cha cha beat or the uneven "swing" beat (similar to how samba has that quick bum dadum bum dadum)
it's really easy to demonstrate with clapping hands. i agree with sam on the notes about lindy.
Could you post the set list? Honestly, very little of the music stood out to me, and I could use a reminder.
The one exception: I'm still waiting for that final note of that "Dosvidanya" song to resolve. It just stops at a mentally awkward place that makes it almost physically uncomfortable.
Yes, I realize that, it was a last minute cut that I had to make, because it slows down dramatically right after that, I am working on finding a better ending because it is a lovely polka.
