The first thing I posted I had a friend beta first before I posted it. And she is a ruthless, wonderful beta. She was like - ok, I'll do this but I hope you aren't sensitive to criticism. I said Nope I need this.

She sent it back to me covered in "red"

I sucked it up, did what she said and it was pretty good by the time I got it "fixed"

I sent her something a few weeks ago and there was maybe two changes and both were just minor suggestions (which I took because she was clearly correct)

I mentioned to her about the difference between me as a writer in fic one and my latest- she said I'd come a long way. So I can't write War and Peace - I'm pleased with my growth as a writer. It doesn't mean I still can't get better though!

BTW - don't give it to your cat - he probably feels he is far superior to you anyway. No need to make it worse.

I just sold a new book but it took them two months to say yea or nay and I was sure they had figured out that my stuff sucked and I couldn't write for shit. Turns out I am still fooling people :)

And yes, my cat is rather uppity, I might just not tell him about it.

HEY!, don't be so hard on yourself , remember those first steps (stories) got you to where you are now and you are as Dean would say AWESOME; so I know there are some awesome and good moments in you stories of past you can always revisit if you like and leave to see how much you learned or go back and rework and place side by side to see how you would improve the story now;
