Transferring between services

I'm transferring from the Army Reserve to the Marine Corps (active component). I already filled out DD 368, talked to a recruiter and have had my decision okayed by my immediate chain of command, but what I wanted to ask you all about was something my squad leader said: that I have to write a memo to the CG about why I want to transfer ( Read more... )

I've heard about this memo. Not sure what kind of form it is, but the few times Soldiers have switched services in my unit, they said it was like a feedback form in general. Basically they wanted to know if they were switching because of dissatisfaction with their current service, or other reasons.

As before though, this is just what I've heard.

You could also just forward the cartoon posted this morning regarding Army-Navy football game scores to the CG. ;-)

Is a letter to the boss stating why you want an interservice xfer required by the governing document?

No. All I had to fill out on DD 368 was the typical identifying stuff plus a signature.

I wouldn't do it then. If your squad leader still wants it, have the reference handy.

You can't make someone conform to a standard that doesn't exist, right? I poked around USAPA and I can't find any mention of this phantom memo.
