WOLF GAME: SECOND DAY, THIRD VICTIM

Terrified, she was backed against the cabin's wall, her fingers searching over mossy stone for any kind of weapon she could use in her defense. All that flaked off the wall onto into her palms were pebbles and small dusty rocks, of no use to her. She supposed briefly she could always throw the pebbles into her attacker's eyes, then try to make a dash for it.
Other than that, she was trapped as the object of her fear advanced forward.
Mordecai slowly made his way across the open field from the forest to her, kicking up dirt in his path. His smile was gradual, clever, and Nicki would have considered it a smirk were it not for the flash of broad white teeth she momentarily caught. Finding her footing, she slid along the wall, glancing up towards the early morning sky and looking over towards the sleeping members at camp. She wanted to cry for help, ask them to do something on her behalf, but she had a feeling that they would not come running to her aid.
"Oh, you're making a fuss over nothing," Mordecai said playfully, winking at her as he closed in. Nicki blinked as she looked down from the orange and blue sky and swallowed a small gasp, not knowing (and not really wanting to know) how he had approached her so quickly. "You really shouldn't be so terrified of seeing me."
He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her closer to his chest, locking her struggling body firmly against it. Kissing her cheek and placing his hands on her shoulders, he forcefully turned her around and -- ignoring all her angry comments of "you fucking bastard" and "let me go" -- pushed her up against the cabin wall. The dark brown moss was cool against her cheek, and she bit down on her tongue to keep from crying out. If this was the way the jackass was going to play it, then so be it. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction of hearing her cry.
"After all," he started, leaning closer so his lips brushed against the shell of her ear, "I'm not the real threat here."
A growl, from directly behind her. Just as she was about to turn her head, the pressure on her back disappeared and Mordecai was no longer holding onto her. She took a step back, digging her heel into the ground, and -- suddenly -- there was a sharp, aching pain deep in the small of her back as her legs buckled and her body gave way.
Mordecai watched her grisly death from not even ten feet away, hand pressed against the house wall. The wolves were already descending on Nicki, who lay paralyzed at their feet. Their claws were digging into her clothes that did little to protect her, into her soft skin, past the muscle and to the bone. He tapped the stone with his fingers, saw as Nicki turned her head towards him, open her mouth, wanting to scream, wanting to cry. He turned away when the largest wolf carefully wrapped its jaws around her exposed neck.
Mordecai strode back into the safety of his wooded area, pulling a cigarette from his pocket and bringing it to his lips. "There's your threat," he murmured around the roll of tobacco, lighting it moments later with a small match.
Tossing the lit match onto the wet dirt below him, he disappeared silently into the forest.
