Since a few people asked, I could not renew my driver's license online (as to avoid the nasty DMV line) because 1) I had to take a vision test and 2) I got the new design of the IL license. I feel your pain. I had to go in for my renewal this year too. Found out I needed glasses to drive, too. The lady passed me with my READING GLASSES and she was just being kind because I waited for hours in line.

THE DMV SUCKS! They can't even use debit cards like descent human beings. I found this out too late and found myself back at the end of the line after picking up some cash.
