So...now that I'm no longer in Physics...and I'm a English - Linguistics major...im thinking of taking a minor in Mathematics. I can't make school easy on myself after all. Besides...for Linguistics I have to be fluent to the 400 level in a foreign language...so I have three years left at ASU anyway...which means empty space on a schedule that ( Read more... )

I took Cal3 last semester and am in Linear Algebra and DiffEQ this semester. Linear is a blast and reminds me more of logic and statistics and high school algebra than anything else. DiffEQ is calc based and shares a lot with intro-level physics (acceleration, velocity, mathematical models of physical things). But maybe taking DiffEQ would explain some of the physics things your teacher refused to teach.

Well, Calc3 (and DiffEQ and some Lineaer Algebra classes) are is just more of a mechanical type of class. In other words, they teach you how to solve problems, mostly (far less theory than "real Math").

There are other Math classes, like "Real Analysis" or "Applied Stochastic Processes"...and just what the crap is a manifold?!

So while these things may very well be more difficult than calc 3, they are not necessarily difficult in the same way...

Why don't you take 12 minors would that make school hard enough for you? :P If you only need three more classes might as well right? Just take some random ones. Take art classes too but only ones that involve sculpture or various forms of interpretive arts because then who can tell you that your art work is ugly? Then its just their fault for not understanding it. Have you picked a language yet?

Unrelated question: If I was to put down Space Camp as a job reference, who should I list? The managers when I was there were Sam, Paula, and Ed; should I list one or all of them, or go higher up? I'm trying to put together my application for substitute teaching (finally), and I figure that's a good job to list, but I get stuck on the whole person part.

A friend of mine majored in ling. and is now doing her master's in ling. too. She knows a ton of languages. It's neat.

This is Lyle, by the way. I'm all hopped up on vicodin as I type this!
