If the Devil is in the Details, then Satan was the Chief Previous Rennovator of this House!

We've been here just over a month now. It doesn't seem that long, but the days have kind of blurred into each other a bit. For every maintenance task that's been started, another two or three have had to be done first, just so that I can get back to finishing the original one. As a result change has been slow sometimes and not always easily visible ( Read more... )

I laughed at your image of Satan as a renovator. Don't underestimate the work that you're doing on the house: these house fixes smooth out so many irritations from daily life, and generate good vibes like the spins of a Tibetan prayer wheel.

Oh hell yes! (Keeping on with both the infernal and karmic themes).

The house feels very different now to a month ago. It's the combination of repairs and painting done by the tradies, my work (although everywhere I look there's yet another to do), having more and more of our stuff unpacked and set up (we're up to about 80% of the books on shelves now), and the banishment of a genuine miasma with the smells of cooking, herbs, cats, and us.

I like to think that all these things have made the house itself a little happier and calmer. Kitchen and hedge magic at work.

I still irrationally adore the fact that you live in a green house! And I love your lounging room, it just feels like you can flop down anywhere and read a book or have tea in big mugs. Odin the cat seems to approve of the place too, as it looks.

..and I'm sure you know that to people who don't do house renovations, it is a thing of wonder and beauty when someone attempts them, part of the reason for the praise you've gotten, I'm sure. Well that, and you obviously not being "a retard".

Not sure how long the house will stay green, Seal. We're looking at a couple of different colour schemes, but only one retains much green. The first major project is to replace the roof, and what colour we go for there will pretty much decide the other options later, with the window sills and frames being the next most urgent thing to paint after that.

Attempt, I think, is the key word there. There's nothing quite like having to fill and redrill the same hole more than once because you're two millimetres out and X won't match with Y, despite your best measuring efforts.

It will be a long process...

Tooticky sees your herbs and raises you three weeks, and (kittens and bacon aside) I have funnier stories. :p
