A/N: I worry a bit when Watari-muse starts waxing overly poetic about his boyfriend - he was barely crossing the line here.

--------------------

There were times when he wondered what he would have been, if the silly accident had not happened. He would be old, maybe distinguished, maybe gotten a haircut, and possibly holding onto the patent that he had so painstakingly worked on. He would be watching the series of football matches that had taken the country by storm, even if he didn't like football, because his country had almost made it, maybe sharing the couch with a young son or colleagues.

Instead, he had rambled absently to 003, one eye on the bubbling beaker, listening to Chijou radio, waiting for the step outside that meant so much. And when the door opened, he had flashed an apologetic grin and sheepish gesture towards the ongoing experiment. Instead of cheering the first goal, he had been busy running his hands under a crisp shirt, lacking breath but refusing to break the kiss, not yet, not now, when his lover was here and in a good mood and not working himself to a second death.

And he thought maybe death had been worthy of something.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

He smiled and shook his head. "Nothing much. Hey, want to catch some Chijou football?"

Terms:
Chijou - 'The land above', i.e. the land of the living (vs the Meifu).

Hope this works...
