Also, I've never read the Outsiders. Also, when I read Catcher in the Rye I didn't like it. Though I feel like I was still dumb enough at the time that I might like it if i read it again.

is my favorite book of all time. s.e. hinton is a gifted author. it connects to youth in a way that i feel has been attempted many times and many times has failed by many 'famous' and 'renouned' works.
and the movie is also excellent.

I believe you... I have never seen students respond this way to a novel. My 8th graders are actually reading ahead. I suppose it's time I finally caught up with them...
