*Madstone cans gay cinema

Okay, they claim it wasn't a good movie. Is that REALLY the issue here? I think some undertones had occurred. Madsone is a business, they're not stupid. They want to make money. Showing a gay film in Utah is always controversial, let alone one that might suggest that being gay is A-OK! Bah!!! I am frustrated and angry and all kinds of things. The ( Read more... )

I gotta tell you that I just finished watching the trailer for Latter Days and I think it looks like it could be GREAT!! If it shows anywhere in the Orlando area, I will DEFINITELY be catching it!! Any movie the combines gay themes & pokes fun at Mormons is OK in my book!! It looks like it's also a gay love story...which I KNOW I'll enjoy! As for Madstone theaters claiming that the film has no "artistic merit", I'll bet you they've shown plenty of other films that easily fall into that category (by one person's measue or another) which DO NOT show the Mormon church for what it is. Bottom line--this movie is being shunned in SLC because the spineless owners of the local theater don't want to scare off their business...only they don't have the integrity to tell it like it is! I guess equivocation and subterfuge are the only "merit" Madstone recognizes. I wish I could say that knowing that a theater chain in SLC won't feature "Latter Days" on their marquee surprises me, but in the Land of Orrin Hatch, NOTHING surprises me! Hey ( ... )

It's going to open in Orlando in April, I believe. Check out http://www.latterdaysmovie.com for the Regal Theatre location and opening date. (too bad it still hasn't shown in Utah *sigh*)
