oh hello! If you wanted to make the room seem bigger you may want to take out the drywall box above the cabinets, raising the ceiling. I don't know how much more skimcoating you'd like to do though, but it makes a big improvement and there's room for "stuff" above the cabinet. =D Just an idea!
If we were going to live here forever we would take out the soffit, but it's way too much work for a house we hope to be out of in the next 3-5 years. It's not a bad idea, I am just opting for a simpler solution.
=) Well it seems you have great ideas already and I'm sure it'll be gorgeous when you're done. Home improvement projects are so much fun to me... Last year we did the same thing and the best part was removing the popcorn ceiling. Guess how we did it ?
We used a hose set to full blast in the middle of the kitchen. The place was dripping like a cave filled with bat guanao.... =D
I grew up in a house that was build in 1870, and over the years I grew up there, we remodeled every room in the house. If I never have to do it again, I will be happy. I don't hate this, but I am not really enjoying it. We will love it when it's all done, but not at this time. I have the refrigerator in the living room, and piles of stuff all over the house.
I kind of did like smashing up the floor, that wasn't so bad, but it would have been better to get that frustration out at the end.
I don't think anyone feels fro you more than I do, brother. I've been remodeling my bathroom fro more than a month. Granted, I've got another bathroom to use, so I've not been too inconvenienced. Good luck and make sure to plan everything out well before hand. I had a big gas fiasco happen when I tried to cut the gas off to replace my stove during my kitchen replacement. It cost me $1,500 and I didn't have gas for a week.
I really like planning ahead. I mean, things can still go wrong and change, but if I can keep to a strategy, I at least know what I should be doing next. I hope we will be done within the next week or two, it's really slow right now because of our schedules, and they will get worse in a couple of weeks, so we have to try to get everything back in soon.
