Religion Which Has Deteriorated into Fanaticism

I do understand what you are trying to say. When religion deteriorates into fanaticism, where religion causes the individual to defy social conventions, then it does become the opposite of what it was meant to be, as we have seen with 9/11, the shooting of doctors who perform abortions, and the like. I agree that religious extremism IS a deadly sin.

Religion does not have to promote violence to be a deadly sin. It can also blind people to the truth. It can divide families. It can promote bigotry and superstition instead of promoting harmony and wisdom.

Consider, is there any reason to want to tear the families of homosexuals apart, other than religiously inspired bigotry and superstition?
