School Information

Here is some information about the school on Utopia for all those muns whose characters will be attending school. Remember, from ages 5 to 16, school is required, and for ages 17 to 18, it is highly suggested. Utopia is on a four day school week, with Fridays being a study/tutoring day for students who wish to receive more comprehensive support for their school work.

First of all, characters who attended school before coming to Utopia, whether homeschooling or public/private schooling, will have all of their school records transferred with them. They will continue their lessons at the same level of education as before. However, for those children who have not experienced a formal schooling environment, the school will issue a series of simple, standardized tests so that they can be given lessons most appropriate for their level of knowledge.

Muns, this does not mean you have to take a test! The general idea behind the school is that students work independently and at their own pace. The school is a one-roomed building with a small playground built next to it, and a convenience store close by for students to buy their lunch if they do not pack one. Each individual subject that a student takes is contained in a workbook, which is filled with lessons, practice problems, and assignments. Generally, the students will read over one lesson per day, with the teacher offering one-on-one support and assistance as needed. Students are expected to do the homework for that lesson after class to be turned in the next morning. This way, students are not forced into classes where they would perform poorly.

That said, we ask that the muns take their character's level of previous education into account when choosing classes. If your character was raised on the streets with no formal schooling, don't put him into Physics and Trigonometry! The classes have suggested ages next to them based on when they would be taught in American public schools. Of course, there are wide ranges of education across borders, so it may be helpful to do some research into your character's culture, and find out information about education in that culture, to help you choose your character's schedule. All students should post their schedule somewhere in a journal entry and on their profile, but they don't have to be put on this post.

Here is a schedule of the order in which classes will be taught:
