I live in a state with a lot of churches and other religious organizations, but non-religious or non-church-going people are the biggest growing population. There are many reasons that I understand. The fact is that churches and other faith organizations are one of the last intergenerational communities and gathering places. What we get at church, with children through elders being there together, is the bridge between family and the larger society. I have a lot of hope that UUism will be sustained, even as more and more people choose "none" for their religion. Some of us just want to gather in a community that sustains our spirits and pushes us to grow, whether or not we believe in doctrine or God. And that is what UUism does, for me and for my kids.
