So.. It happens Again

Had an interview on Monday… and again they decided I wasn’t the right candidate.

This is starting to get a little annoying, I make it though the CV cut and then get no where.

Gah, I really wish something would come along

It  not for the cash, just so I have something todo.

Can you ask them for feedback on why you weren't the right candidate?

Might be helpful going forwards - I asked that from some of my interviews and it really helped me to figure out what companies were actually looking for.

I did that and got this responce:-

Dear Martin

I’m afraid it’s company policy that we do not provide detailed explanations of why particular applications are successful or not. But I can say that you came across as a person who is sincerely interested in sedimentary geology and I think you need to find an opportunity to polish the skills in this subject you learnt at university - a job which gives you some hands-on geological experience of looking at rocks - in core or in the field - will help. That isn’t really what we do, but I’m sure with perseverance you will find the right opportunity.

All the best

yeah - it sounds like one of those "not quite right for this job yet, come back in a couple of years" responses.

Of course, how you get the experience is an issue - I got quite a bit of similar stuff when I started job-hunting this time round ("not got enough PM experience for this job") so I've got a job that's more on the support side but with opportunities to get into PM (which are already being looked at and I've only been here for a week!)

Sometimes you have to go laterally or work out a different route into your ideal job.
