dilemma!

I was so going to vote lib-dem this time, partly because they are the only party with an environmental policy as part of their manifesto and partly because they totally oposed the war in Iraq without a UN resolution, however I have just checked out on how my vote might affect my finances:

The Lib-Dems local income tax calculator would suggest We' ( Read more... )

My local incometax would be virtually half of my current council tax bill ... another reason for me to go Yellow, which should please your other half no end!!!

Definitely worth your vote then. It is a fairer way of doing things.

Holy crap, I'm going to be staggeringly worse off under a Lib Dem government. Once again, I've run out of people to vote for.

Definitely, though I think you'll find that all 3 major parties will hike taxes in one way or another after the election, at least you know where it is coming from with the Lib-Dems. It is a fact that we are becoming a very top heavy society as we live longer and less children are being born. Higher Crime plus far more pensions to pay means higher taxes. Other than introducing the death penalty and euthenasia, it is inevitable we will have to pay more tax as time goes on.

Bugger it.
I am selfish. I wont vote lib dem to play fair because so many others don't play fair. Its all very well to base tax levels to match ability to pay if everyone who was able to work was flippingwell doing so. I can think of so many people I know personally who dodge tax and take money cash in hand and they are the sods who complain most about how unfair the tax system is! It makes me absolutely livid.
Fair tax would win my vote in a fair world but its far from a fair world.
Lets see a party stand up and pledge to reintroduce the notion that with rights come responsibilitys because they would get my vote.

Yeah I know. I know far too many people who are happy to sit on the social, or work cash in hand to avoid tax. I also wonder what demographic of the population are the ones that put the greatest strain on the local tax expenditure. Sorry about this, I'm probably being classist or a snob or something but I'm guessing most of the graffiti and crime is not caused by your average IT consultant or lawyer, who would be worse off under the new scheme, however your old age pensioner, person too ill to work, single parent would be more fairly taxed under the new scheme, so it would be fairer for most. Besides, it appears that the other parties are likely to hike taxes just as much in other areas, and as I've said before, some of their other policies, are appealing to me.

My problem with the LibDems aren't the tax hikes, but they seem just a little too pro europe for my tastes

I'm still undecided on Europe. Part of me thinks it is a good thing and part doesn't. If things were to change a little more favourably for the UK on that front I'd probably be all for it. I would like to set a bit more distance between us and the US though. It seems we are far to cosy with them for my liking.
