Those questions about circles in the xy-coordinate plane that tell you where the center is and how it "intersects once with the x-axis" or whatever. I can get as far as finding the radius and then I'm left being all "durrrrrwhat?"
And I suck at finding those equation thingies involving cost. They should be easy, but I never get them right.
And then questions that give you quadratic equations except you have x along with a and b and then they ask you for a...
maaaaaan Steph. You can try and help, but the truth of it is, I'm an epic failure at anything I try to do. Especially math.
Well, I know I could try and help with the first one? I think. I got one of those on the PSAT I took at school; I'm not sure what the other two are like so I can't say the same thing for sure.
And you don't fail! Dude, I'm actually amazed at some of the stuff you've done.
Maybe. I guess. It's like 3 days until the PSATs anyway. At this point I'm better off hoping I vomit or have a breakdown during the exam so I can at least score pity points when I totally bomb it.
stuff I've done--like what? What is any of the "stuff I've done" going to do to help me be something other than a useless sack of money-sucking emo?
*hugs* If it helps any, I was a complete and unmitigated disaster at maths in high-school -- to the point where the professor was always keeping me from flunking because she kind of took pity on my confused floundering around. ^^;
I managed to get a decent score at the necessary tests by working often with a neighbor who was a math teacher and offered private instruction from time to time.
I've been studying for this test, honest I have! I've gone through every math problem in the prep book, I've gone through all the grammar, I really have! My father would like to think otherwise, but it's true.
I just. Still can't score very high. I scored WORSE today than I did on the test last year, even! It really goes to show how much of a disgrace I am. And when those results come in, my father, I swear to god, will actually kick me out of the house. And I'd completely deserve it.
You must not have a general inclination for maths, then. That was the issue with me as well -- I could study for hours, but things still didn't seem to stick properly in my head, no matter how hard I tried.
I can't offer any other advice than this -- try to work together with someone who's good at maths and who is patient enough as to properly explain everything step-by-step, not fly off the handle if a question is posed of if you're unclear about something on the first go. That was the only approach that worked for me
I've been working with my dad on this for the past month. We've gone over all the questions together, and when we did each one he would go slowly, making me do most of the work while he guided. Then he'd make me repeat how we did the problem, and why we did it that way to make sure I wasn't just going through the process without understanding it.
But it doesn't seem to have helped me, not in the least. Somehow, it's made me worse.
I sucked at math, if that makes you feel better ^_^;;; Of course, when a lot of jobs require you to have a good knowledge of math, it's pretty hard to get something. Mind you, that's what calculators are good for *grins* *hugs*
