Jun 17, 2005 01:50

Not long ago the GOP introduced a bill to Congress which indicates repealing the 22nd amendment. If this isn't a sign for their hunger to stay in power I don't know what is ( Read more... )

Fortunately this probably won't make it past the House. The absolute nearsightedness of some of our Representatives and Senators never ceases to amaze me. In this case I am certain they would not want a Democratic President serving indefinitely, Bill Clinton would have been a wonderful candidate for that, based on his popularity! If we think back a couple months ago, certain Senate Republicans were attempting to abolish the filibuster. Did they not realize that this would come back to haunt them when they inevitably lost majority control?

It really sounds like we have some inept lawmakers with fantastically asinine ideas...what else is new!

If they repeal 22, CLinton can come back and reign forever. He'd win, if he ran today. Oh. Except for Diebold. Damn.

Also, it was a Democrat, from Maryland, not the Republicans... wtf??

Well I dunno, I just came across that link that stated this was the work of the GOP, unless that article and the link to the library of congress was complete bs **shrugs**(I don't really think they are grand, but they sure act it)

Actually, two proposals have been introduced to repeal the 22nd Amendment.

The first, HJRES 11 IH [], was introduced on January 7, 2003 by Representative Jose Serrano (D-NY).

The second, HJ 25 IH [] was introduced by Steny Hoyer (D-MD) on February 25, 2003. These appear to be identical. The latter proposed amendment has 7 sponsors -- Henry Hyde (R-IL), Barney Frank (D-MA), James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), Howard Berman (D-CA), Martin Olav Sabo (D-MN), Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), and Jose Serrano (D-NY).

Not sure why Dems are pushing so hard for this shit...gives rise to some interesting bodysnatcher conspiracies, though...or maybe our entropic world is spiraling ever further toward polarization of the haves & have-nots.

One world, indeed. :-(

Yeah i've heard that democrats tried to do that too. I think this is really more about calling attention to themselves and seeing who will make a big stink about it.

Well the democrats tried to do this in the past while Bush was in office...not really sure why. But this recent bill was the GOP. I guess I just don't really understand what they are trying to do. To be hpnest, as liberal as I tend to be, I don't particularly liek democrats all that much either, mostly because they seem pretty lost right now. I think our gvt. is just in dire need of a make-over and we need to get rid of some of these people who are so addicted to their own power that they are willing to go to such extremes.
