Con Report

Mar 16, 2010 11:53

I was quite worried about Intercon this year because this year I have become something of a recluse, mainly due to the fact that both school and my internship are very emotionally demanding and most of the time when I am free I don't have the energy to maintain the boundaries that keep me sane in social situations. This was especially concerning ( Read more... )

Actually put together that presentation on psychodrama for Pre-Con

Oh my god, I would love to see that happen!

I'm really glad you had fun in Lifeline and Sound of Drums, and it was great seeing you again.

A friend of mine did a paper last semester on psychodrama so I am thinking to build on her material and maybe even get her to come and present with me.

That would be fantastic! The potential for overlap between LARP and various types of dramatherapy has always fascinated me.

What made me most apprehensive as a player was that I had no clue who was playing my handler. Role playing such a close, even enmeshed, relationship with a stranger is pretty scary. Surrendering my will in the game to him- even scarier, because then my experience of the game depended on his ability to role-play.

I have the opposite problem. I get apprehensive about handling other players. If I'm in charge of anyone else I stress out over making sure that they're entertained instead of trying to play my own character. But I'm perfectly happy to be someone else's pet.

4) Learn to snap back to myself quicker? Not sure how yet though.

This is why I stopped doing Intercon. I need too much time to recover between characters. If I ever go to another Intercon I'd probably end up GMing more than playing just to keep my sanity.

I am sure that had I been cast as one of the handlers I'd have been worried too, but given my personality and the usual roles I take in my life, taking care of people isn't really a challenge. I imagine the role of the handler wouldn't be all that different than my job in real life sometimes. Certainly very similar to one of the jobs I've had (you know which). To me, being someone's pet is a much riskier notion.

Being a pet means I only have to react to another player. If they're being a bastard to me I can rebel or wallow in in-character misery. I'm fine with either option.

Having a PC on a leash means I'm also responsible for them and can very easily ruin the game for them. It's not that I find being in charge challenging so much as stressful.

Also we should write together again. I've missed that.
