So I guess this isn't 100% entirely official, since I haven't spoken to my manager in person(I probably will tomorrow), but since I left a note, he didn't call me back, and I came in today to find the situation unchanged, I'm betting it won't. So here goes

I guess I'm not fully comfortable with "vigilantism" procedurally, but it starts to seem arbitrary how the framework of legitimacy is drawn up.

Hacking fraud sites is a) moral and b) illegal, and the official response from The Man is "All I really know is the stories of vigilantism ending well are few and far between." Actually, that's from a security expert. But he's obviously authoritarian. Piece of the man! Piece of the man!

Thought I'd bring this to the attention of someone who blogs and who pays attention to this sort of thing?

Everything anyone ever needs to know about vigilantes and the Man's response to them can be found within the pages of Batman.

On a more serious note, I would be more dismissive of the anti-vigilante crowd, but on the other hand, lets face it, there are some pretty stupid, immature, dumbass hackers out there.

But the response here seems kind of lackluster...their actions are illegal, but morally sound? That's the kind of response that makes me think these people are secretly glad that someone is doing something, because they know they can't.

But yeah...those wild west comparisons are pretty stupid.
